obedient.  When they do what someone else tells them, they can't be wrong.  That's why they do it.

I'm not sure how we create so many people who are afraid to be wrong or fail.  Some are probably the result of parents who punished any initiative.  Others,  I'm sorry to suggest, are perhaps the product of overly "permissive" parents who failed to provide guidance on the premise that people should learn from their mistakes.  When that's started at too early an age, the self-protective response is not to engage in autonomous action.
In other words, both the autocrat and the liberal are to blame.  Neither seem prepared to provide the "authoritative" direction that keeps children safe and gives them the confidence to try a new direction because they know that, if they head off in the wrong direction, there'll be someone to set them right.
