Are the most dangerous people.
I've met many of them and they are very scary. It's not that they are ignorant of the fact, no, it's just that they can not say "oh, what the fuck was I thinking?!?!" - no that is totally outside their box (and they DO think inside a box).
Painton seems to be one of these people. It is writ therefore it is. Facts be fucking damned.
Or, closer to the point, "we don't report the news, we CREATE the news".
"I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

obedient. When they do what someone else tells them, they can't be wrong. That's why they do it.
I'm not sure how we create so many people who are afraid to be wrong or fail. Some are probably the result of parents who punished any initiative. Others, I'm sorry to suggest, are perhaps the product of overly "permissive" parents who failed to provide guidance on the premise that people should learn from their mistakes. When that's started at too early an age, the self-protective response is not to engage in autonomous action. In other words, both the autocrat and the liberal are to blame. Neither seem prepared to provide the "authoritative" direction that keeps children safe and gives them the confidence to try a new direction because they know that, if they head off in the wrong direction, there'll be someone to set them right.
How do you tell a predator from a protector? The predator will eat you sooner rather than later.

This is not a case of child-rearing: this is a case of people who, in a normal situation, would act normally, BUT when put in a position of IMPORTANCE, turn into whacked out loons.
I've known plenty of people that, as Joe Worker did their job competently, were friendly, and played well with others. But there is this personality that when they get a bit of POWER they turn into these nutcases. They are never wrong. And even when they are wrong they argue they are substantially right.
Some will pursue courses that have no viable result, yet continue to pretend that they do (despite all evidence otherwise). Bust these people back down to "regular joe/jane office worker" and they go back to being normal.
No, it is that whiff of power, even if a little, that becomes so intoxicating as to blur their senses.
