When the basis of your worldview has no moral underpinning, only numbers, then when public opinion turns you have no psychological defense. You lose not only your status and listenership, you also lose your legitimacy. People react viciously to a complete loss of legitimacy.

Fatal GOP weakness: no caffeine in the slime.
I would continue to encourage everyone to use their superpowers for good, not evil, even though "evil" now seems to require less congressional oversight.
