........of the past few weeks were deeply troubling to me for many reasons, but they helped me understand something. "Abuse" is the word we use to describe the evil done to children by adults........but in many cases, "torture" would be far more descriptive.
A helpless child who is unable to defend against the physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse perpetrated by an adult is being tortured. "Abuse" seems to be too mild a word to describe it.
Soemhow there is great freedom in calling it what it is: torture. And determining to fight against torture wherever we encounter it, whether in American homes or in American detention camps.
