That's right, my experience riding beneath the waves in a submarine during Viet Nam prepared me well for my current occupation: Professional ELF.

expression. What is most important to me varies, except family, constantly. elves are one of my favorite things, but down somewhat on the important list.
Dunno about alf. Is Alf gay? Nobody tells me nuthin, pout

if you're not psychologically prepared for living in close quarters with 150 other guys, under water for weeks at a time. No sun, no breeze, crappy food, and not much room to stretch your legs. It would make me go insane and start fighting people.
I only know one sub-service officer, and he's so quiet and introverted, even though he's over six feet tall, it's easy to just overlook him.

I think for many of us, the pride in the relative rarity of our positions as sub sailors, helped us stay focused. And we had movies everyday and there's nothing quite like hanging onto an overhead pipe as the boat dives at a 45 degree angle.
by randallt on Fri Nov 30, 2007 at 09:23:56 AM PDT
it would be off to you.
I've always been fascinated by the submarine service. I'm betting that had I ever been in the Navy, just taking the psych exam for it would make me claustrophobic and I'd wash out.

at Pensacola. They were all the physics geeks. HOWEVER, they really helped a lug like me understand atoms and their reactions when one night before exams I couldn't get how atoms interrelated with one another and all the nuke geeks started dancing the pogo and bouncing into one another until I finally "got" it....
...sheesh, I'm an idiot, it's so simple, just crank up DEVO and understand the physics of atoms!

That's why I became an Elf. My physics training led to a deeper understanding of how Santa and the reindeer do their stuff. Think quantum though because Copenhagen won't get you there.
