Perhaps our founding fathers got it right when they called for a separation between church and state.

It's the fundies in the GOP who get it all wrong. Right from their delusion as America founded as a Christian nation. Didn't happen. Except in their own misinformed delusions.

The Christian Right was always a deeply cynical coalition, driven by making common cause against people with Modern values.
This is what happens when the standard 'Christian' popular resentments and fears of Modern life are expended, losing their pull on a majority. The coalition now has to either lose majority (and break up as the defeats mount) or broaden to accept more fringe groups, losing coherence and authority. I.e., a purity vs majority power struggle.
Happily, we're watching both things happen, and since they're contradictory, they force implosion and both purity and majority are hit fatally.
Renewal. Not mere reforms. We can no longer afford to worship the god of hate or bow before the altar of retaliation. Martin Luther King Jr.
