Imagine the hours it took to choreograph this ...
Imagine the weeks of testing, to see that all the circuits worked, with timers going right ...
Imagine weeks of this running, with 200 watt speakers, 3+ hours a day, each evening ...

IIRC, when I first read about this, the guy instead used a shortwave radio signal, so that those who wanted to hear the music to which the lights were choreographed could do so, and those who didn't, didn't have to.
