Raw Story, one of the nation's leading political and investigative news websites, is seeking a full time Deputy Managing Editor to edit the site on evenings and Sundays. The successful candidate will be responsible for choosing the content that goes up on the site, writing up news articles, doing small reporting, and managing site updaters and some freelancers. **Familiarity with the political blogosphere is an absolute must. Please visit the site before you apply.** The editor would work Monday through Thursday on an evening shift, likely 3:30 pm – 11:30 pm ET and Sunday late morning- evening. He/she would assist the Executive Editor in managing the editorial content of the site, and occasionally be expected to swap hours and cover for the Executive Editor in his absence. The editor will work off site at the place of his/her choosing -- from home, for example. Some journalism background is required. Must have quick Internet skills, be familiar with mainstream news sites and the blogosphere, RSS, and adept at writing catchy banner headlines and short write-ups. Familiarity with AP style (or general reporting) is a plus, as well as the ability to write quickly without making typographical errors. Speed and agility in responding to breaking news are paramount. The Deputy Managing Editor will also assist Raw Story's Managing Editor for Investigative News. Raw Story is known for its investigative reporting; in the past we've reported on the location of a secret Polish CIA prison, work outed CIA officer Valerie Plame did to thwart Iran's nuclear program as well as stories such as the adverse effects of the anthrax vaccine, treatment of temporary visa workers and the records of Bush Administration officials. Editors have the opportunity to get bylines to be read by a few million each week, as well reach opinion makers in the Capitol, the Pentagon, the Washington reporting corps and the intelligence community. Email diane@rawstory.com to apply. Please send a resume and three writing samples.
