I only weigh 100 lbs. Too bad, because I never ate any beef after 1971.
My husband stopped donating blood because the local blood drives would make an appointment with him, then take walk-ins and leave him waiting for an hour or longer.

for the same reason as your husband. Too bad, because I have O Negative CMV negative blood. I used to donate quad packs for babies, but Red Cross seems so disorganized now that it is just too difficult to donate anymore.

that there's major reorganization of Red Cross in the works, but it looks to be more along the lines of privatization/for-profit.

Red Cross for profit??? How will that work? Will we need insurance to qualify for Red Cross help?

with no luck. IIRC the Red Cross board or advisory committee has been packed with Homeland Security/neocon/government cronies. Based on their nonperformance during hurricane Katrina, and what we know about Bush privatization, I guess that the plan may be to have Red Croos pay private companies to provide the services that the Red Cross traditionally provided in the past. Thus, if one donates to the Red Cross, the Red Cross will spend that money paying Wal-Mart to deliver bottled water, etc. Thus, instead of Wal-Mart donating the water, they make a profit off of it. Thar's merely my guess based on a very healthy bs detector.

I'm afraid I wouldn't be inclined to want to donate in emergencies so that corporations can profit from disaster. Something about that plan stinks.
