..and has so little respect from the foreign policy and foreign govt. community she is forced to constantly lie to put a good face on things. Daniel Shore on NPR said earlier this week she basically has carved out for herself a little area WITHIN the state department to work just kind of doing her own thing while Negroponte, Burns, Cheney and the guy for the far east (can recall his name presently) do their own things. There's nobody really running State. Its a complete mess.

..I just bought Concert for Bangladesh on DVD a few days ago. Absolutely unbelievable: George, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Bob Dylan, Ravi Shankar, Ringo, Bad Finger, Buffalo Springfield...in packed Mad. Square Garden for 2 nights in 1971 - truly magical.

..I was just telling somebody yesterday after I saw the DVD that Leon Russell at that concert was one of the best of the group. Billy Preston knocked my socks off for one song, but Leon for much of the set was a central player - backing up Dylan and George, and singing the best rendition of Jumping Jack Flash I have ever ever hear. WATCH IT HERE!!! WOW:

Jumpin' Jack Flash comes from this guy Jack Dyer, who was my gardener. He'd lived out in the country all his life. I'll put it this way: Jack Dyer, an old English yokel. I once said, Have you ever been to town? And town, to an Englishman, means London, right? And he says, Oh Yeah, I was up there V.E. Day, when the war finished. That cathedral is something. He meant Chichester, the local big town, seven miles away... Mick says, Flash. He'd just woken up. And suddenly we had this wonderful alliterative phrase. So he woke up and we knocked it together. Keith Richards, July 1997

Caught him here in Phoenix some months back at a funky club called the Rhythm Room. Had his daughter singing w/him (I believe Rita Coolidge is her Mom), and she's some kind of beauty!!! Pops kept a close eye on her. Great show!!!

about the daughter.
I would crawl 40 metres over broken glass to hear Rita sing second storey window, I've ordered it for my funeral, and Leon Russel always reminded me of the cat in the hat.

post. Unbelievable. Billy was known as the 5th Beatle in his day. And Leon was simply amazing. He defines Jumpin' Jack Flash (I know, I know, but he does).
I recall going to see Concert for Bangladesh movie when I was in high school. Can still remember the chills I got when they were firing up "Wah-Wah"! But maybe that was because I was wasted at the time. :)

of a collection of real music. You may have cured my dailykos jones. I might spend more time at youtube checking out the music.
I watched Leon as young lion and then as a long in the tooth looking character from Deadwood, with Willie Nelson and Ray Charles together doing A Song for You, which in my estimation is the most soulful ballad any white man has ever put on vynil. Only Ray did the vocals. And piano.
Maaaaarvelous.

This whole administratoin is like a shell corporation. One of those shady gangs that comes to town, rents some space in a busy office builing, hauls in some computers and phones, claims to offer legitimate services, scams a boatload of people, then poof, thirty days later, they've vanished into thin air with nary a fare thee well. There's no evidence they were even there, empty file drawers, nothing in the desks, even the computers are props, fake, no guts inside. That's this gang, flying by the seat of their pants the entire time. The biggest group of unqualified, but God love 'em, loyal freeloaders in American history. But that's just my opinion.
