The Heathlander
by heathlander on Thu May 17, 2007 at 12:10:01 PM PDT
If you buy a domain name, I'll host it for you for free (until you suck up enough bandwidth I notice). Ya'll can have a community I/P blog of your own and sort out our problems without Hunter or mcjoan banning you.
You know damn well that if all the I/P bloggers on DailyKos went to the same site that it could be the blogsphere's authority on the debate. Join the ranks of StreetProphet, MotherTalkers, MyLeftWing, BoomanTribune, MyDD, etc.
What'a ya think? Do we have a deal?
We'll ask the Admin to add it to the FAQ and it can be part of the evolving lore of DailyKos. I/P discussions are banned on DailyKos because it was outsourced to ____.com
Now, why don't you folks get together in email or private chat and come up with a domain name? Hm?

of the diarist's group, may I say that I value being a member of Daily Kos. I would value substantive I-P discussions at Daily Kos. I am not looking to go elsewhere.

it's really nice of you. However, I don't think it's right that Daily Kos should be free of I/P debate, considering its importance as both a moral and political issue. And, judging by previous polls, the vast majority of the community agrees with me.
But thanks for the offer! :)
by heathlander on Thu May 17, 2007 at 01:36:05 PM PDT
Just because there is SP does not mean that there are no more religious diaries anymore.

...that's not what was meant here:
"I/P discussions are banned on DailyKos because it was outsourced to __.com"
by heathlander on Thu May 17, 2007 at 02:48:15 PM PDT
that's what was meant. It's clear to me that I/P discussions have pissed off enough people that the lot of you are not long for this site. Not my call, not my behavior, not my concern.
My bet is that I/P discussions would get more attention on the front page if there was a go-to blog for quality diaries on the topic, as opposed to the usual flamefests on dkos.
I'm all for encouraging diversity and helping build online institutions, even if they don't interest me personally. I offered up a homeland for dkos-exiles of the I/P "discussions", that's it. If the offer isn't accepted, cool: less work for me.
by opendna on Thu May 17, 2007 at 03:53:02 PM PDT
Striking choice of words, considering the subject matter.
I'm personally for a one-state solution online, thank you. "Separate but equal" websites rarely are, especially when one is the most popular blog on the Internet and the other is an up-and-comer.

and I don't want to get banned for upping your mojo on your one-state declaration, but you made me fall out of my chair laughing about "separate but equal."
You hit the target 2 inches left of bullseye at 1000 meter. Amazing shot. You're officially a Marine Corps sharp shooter in my book.
In between these pie fights it gets pretty boring, but when they are on DailyKos is the best blog on the planet, bar none.

He (she?) gave me the set-up. I couldn't resist it.
by lemming22 on Fri May 18, 2007 at 07:10:59 PM PDT
and it was indeed a very generous one. However, if you mean that we stop posting at DKos altogether and post instead at this new site, then I have to turn it down for the reasons stated.
But thanks anyway.
by heathlander on Thu May 17, 2007 at 05:22:16 PM PDT
That's not my problem anymore than the reported bannings.
I required only that both sides agree agree on a name and to the principle that they are responsible for their own environment.
You folks aren't intrested. (shrug) No skin off me.
by opendna on Thu May 17, 2007 at 11:01:52 PM PDT
DailyKos shouldn't be free of the I/P "debate" - but it's not really a debate, is it?
A certain set of posters write daily anti-Israel diaries. They post extravagantly detailed attacks on Israel. Many of these diarists seem to be able to visit the West Bank and Gaza quite freely. And many times they acknowledge that they're getting their material from anti-Israel groups such as the ISM.
How many diaries do you see critiquing the Palestinians? Where's the Israeli version of the Electronic Intifada?
Better question - why can't you pay your own hosting fees and stop attempting to hijack this site?
by barryannarbor on Thu May 17, 2007 at 06:32:27 PM PDT
do you know what an Intifada is? If so, then you'd understand why there ain't no EI for Israel.
by heathlander on Thu May 17, 2007 at 06:46:02 PM PDT
I don't "get" my material from the ISM, nor am I their spokesperson; I am a willing volunteer with the ISM and other peace groups, and I post my thoughts, experiences & opinions much like anyone else. If you have a problem with anything I or anither poster has said, feel free to bring forward a substantive discussion, until then, I've got no time for the usual cliches.

Everyone praise each other, praise Marcos, and dream big dreams. I'd suggest you start reading some histories of the French Revolution, though. You folks will turn on each other, and lead this country to a dark place.
by sofia on Thu May 17, 2007 at 06:56:17 PM PDT
..my new computer had a mind of its own, heh.
Let me start again. Better question: why do you write this on the top of your comment page and why do you appear on only very select occasions when the topic turns to discussion of the I/P debate?
Sounds quite anti-Dkos to me.

If you are going to do this and let heathlander choose the domain and presumably choose the admins then I don't see it as really accomplishing anything. The only way any of this would work is if it had an equal number of admins from both sides.
One side does not a debate make.

I don't even know who all the players are. If both sides can agree to fight it out on one site (e.g. CrossedSwords) and contact me for help, I'll host it.
Dueling admins sounds like a bad idea. Maybe a better route is to have two parallel blogs running next to eachother with track-back enabled. Comment about the other side on your own hometurf, etc.
I dunno. It's really not my beef. I just offered up some turf, how they decide to partition it is their problem. (as is agreeing on a name)

I to think the Dueling admins are unworkable, just like I wrote down thread- these new Monitors have nothing to gain except Power and clout with Admit- It has been my experience that the people that want such a Thankless job, are either:

Add my name as a supporter of Heathlanders diary.
Banning, censorship and prohibition only benefits those whose actions cannot withstand examination in the light of day.
If DKOS represents the debate of important US political issues, then the Israeli/Palestinian issue cannot be censored.

Thanks!
In these times, we do need as much information as we can ... from whatever source. It's up to each and everyone to sift through it and make our own judgment on what we deem valid or not. Censorship is not the answer. If we cannot justify our position through dialogue, then maybe we should revisit it.
BTW great diary, Heathlander ... as usual!

to those supporting this diary.
Admittedly, I haven't been following the I/P flame wars over this issue simply because I'm sick of the way anyone who tries to express their support for the basic human rights of Palestinians gets shouted down around here.
I haven't the energy to deal with the sandbox tactics of those who rush to call someone a anti-semite whenever they ask for reason and calm in trying to find a peaceful resolution to the crisis in the Middle East.
Both sides have done awful things in this conflict there's no denying it. But count me among those who've added their names to this diary. It's time to bring maturity and calm to this debate - and to NOT shout someone down simply because you disagree with them.
Peace
