Worked in Atlanta on a temporary editing assignment back in the early '90s, and did I ever have a good time!  I stayed in the Residence Inn, mid-town, which was walking distance from a wonderful restaurant that looked kinda like a house set back from the street--I remember there was an enormous tree in the front garden.  My friend and I ate dinner at a table parked right under said tree.

And we went to Manuel's one night for a drink.  Atlanta is a wonderful place, I have such fond memories of it!  And when I visit Melbourne, Australia it always reminds me of Atlanta--very green and full of parks and the population is crazy about music, theater, and other cultural events.

The person who owned this restaurant also had another restaurant in Atlanta, I believe.  And there was some tale about a dog...a dog that went with the restaurant.  It's so long ago that I can't quite remember.

Anyway, the food was good and the other diners were wonderfully varied.  I still remember a trio of people who came to eat there while I was waiting for my friend.  It was like something out of an artsy movie--one of those experiences that one never forgets.

      Vickery's on Crescent Avenue.

They also have a cool place in Buckhead called the Steamhouse which had a resident dog that ran for President one year.  I think it's now closed...unfortunately.

      Come on back, y'all.
