This was overblown by over zealous supporters of a certain other candidate
John W. McCain, Bush's third term.

Obama didn't do this, but his staff did. When your staff does wrong, the boss often has to deal with the consequences.

The Edwards partisans are the one pumping this B.S...Joe was clearly in the wrong now that we heard obama's camp side of the story...Joe changed the password on them, then blackmailed them...this happened while the Obama camp were helping joe built the site by telling myspace to direct traffic to this 'unofficial site...Joe was clearly in the wrong here.

supporters. You said it was wrong and I said you should wait to hear all the facts.
Now you have all the facts.

over how Edwards was taken to task over his haircut and they saw this as a way to "get even"

No evidence. Made up. I'm sure you want to believe that.
Whatever. Ending this war is far more important than MySpace.

that war!
by aaraujo on Wed May 02, 2007 at 05:43:22 PM PDT
Edwards has earned his anti-war credentials even if he was not a charter member. For the record I was 55-45 Obama/Edwards before this matter.

Obama supporters, at least here on DailyKos, are the whiniest crybabies in the world.

is just too over the top. Pathetic.
by extratime40 on Wed May 02, 2007 at 08:40:40 PM PDT
I like both Edwards and Obama, though I lean towards the former. (TomP can tell you stories about my continual run-in with Edwards supporters, though.) I promise you that if Edwards had done this, I'd be reacting pretty much exactly the same way. In fact, one of the reasons I lean Edwards is that, perhaps because he's already been through one Presidential campaign cycle, he seems less likely to do this.
That said, I have no desire to "get even" with the Obama campaign (although maybe with the press) for the treatment of the Edwards haircut story. That is not Obama's fault. I approach this from the standpoint of an interest in the incorporation of the new electronic media into Democratic politics -- as an interest group member, if you will, rather than as a partisan. And personally, my criticism has been directed towards helping Obama clean this dogshit off of his shoe. This response from Joe R. has its merits, though for me the jury is still out.

Not being an Edwards' supporter, every time they bring him up in a thread that is totally not relevant to him or his campaign, it pushes me further toward him. ;)

And she didn't ask other Edwards' supporters to re-post her earlier diary if it scrolled off the list?
Stop trying to wipe the lipstick off that pig, Tom. It's one thing to post a negative story on an opposing candidate, it's another thing to gather up the posse to make sure the story sticks.

Those Edwards partisans think we're dumb...like we dont know what kind of game you guys are playing...ook, ive warned Obama supporters about this already..dont think those democrats are your friend and we're on the same page...They do and use anything to bring down obama while complaining about foxnews...Im okay with it and i will do anything to make sure if obama doesnt win this, edwards wont win it either...I will volunteer for hillary or anyone thats not edwards...The edwards supporters wants to play hardball and i believe the only way to get at them is by playing hardball...you fight fire with fire..I dont believe in this " 2 wrong doesnt make it right...It this world, you have to play tough..nice guys always finished last"...
by BlueStateLiberal on Wed May 02, 2007 at 06:42:26 PM PDT
I'm just speaking of this particular example.
And, I don't believe in "making sure" another candidate doesn't win just because my preferred candidate doesn't get the nomination. That's just not right. Frankly, it's kindof immature.
I'll vote for whomever wins the nomination, because I don't want to see another Repbulican in the White House.
by ChiGirl88 on Wed May 02, 2007 at 07:01:00 PM PDT
I'll be honest, I don't really like Obama, but if he got he nomination I'd be behind him all the way. My commitment to change is more important than fighting nail and tooth for one candidate.
If your comment is serious then it really frightens me.

GROW UP!
I love Obama and would love to see him sworn in as the 44th POTUS.
I love Hillary and would love to see her sworn in as the 44th POTUS.
But as of today, I am an Edwards supporter. And this is the first comment I've posted in ANY of these Obama myspace diaries today, because I feel it's necessary to speak up about this (your us vs. them problem).
If you are so hell bent on defeating Edwards if Obama loses (and the only way Edwards can win while Obama loses is in the primary), then you are not a true Democrat. What the hell will happen if Edwards wins the primary and selects Obama as VP? Will you vote for Edwards for POTUS then? Or will you hold onto your sophomoric grudge against him and not vote? What if Obama wins the primary and selects Edwards as VP? Will you still vote for Obama? Or will you go out and campaign against him because he chose Edwards?
It's time to step away from the keyboard and stop it with your Edwards supporter conspiracy theories. Quit bitchin' and get to work trying to get Obama elected. That's what this site is about (getting Dems elected) last time I checked.

I sure haven't picked a candidate yet and I think this bites.
$50k for 160,000 names after they'd already offered to pay him something anyway? It's peanuts. They should have paid up and gladly, or made a counteroffer.

by smhbubbles on Wed May 02, 2007 at 05:30:33 PM PDT
that is crazy
so Edwards supporters sit around and think of ways to discredit Obama unfairly? If they are (which I doubt) it is a waste of energy as there is whole news channel dedicated to slamming him.

This has everything to do with Obama's staff. I don't care who brought it up or for what reason...the essential facts are uncontroverted. Let's not flame away on this tangential topic.
by Graff4Dean on Wed May 02, 2007 at 06:18:59 PM PDT
It's like Obama and Edwards are connected at the hip in the minds of many in this thread - Obama trips but Edwards must've fallen first.
I know they're not because I saw Edwards' speech this weekend at the California Democratic Convention and Obama was no where around.
There's obviously more than meets the eye here but it's a mystery. Nothing like more pie fights.
by CanYouBeAngryAndStillDream on Wed May 02, 2007 at 06:59:53 PM PDT
I sometimes wonder how these people ever find time to hunt some little comment, and then do everything they can to turn it into some sort of flame war. I say we wait for the next Obama OR Edwards diary and shoot the first one that tries to highjack the thread. lol
Can you think of anything the right wing will NOT do? Me neither.

.......one person (perhaps, maybe, unproven) getting a raw deal is a tragedy. 300,000,000 people getting fucked over royally is a statistic.
This is the largest stinking pile of manufactured bullshit I have seen in quite some time (scratch that, it's the biggest pile of manufactured bullshit I've seen since the Trad. Media got their panties in a bunch of Edward's haircut.)
With all the horrible things happening in this country and around the world, this is the meta-shitstorm that the DKos community is focusing on right now. Unbelievable. Maybe some guy got wronged, maybe he didn't. All I know is that in the grand sceme of things, this incident is a minor distraction where the worst consequence has been some hurt feelings and a loss of mojo.
In Iraq right now, people are dying. Americans are dying, Iraqis are dying. The President has just vetoed our best chance of ending this senseless bloodshed.
Let's turn our eyes from the war and focus on more pressing matters.......such as Obama's MySpace page.
Or not.

I'd like to see you put in the time, money, heart and soul into helping a candidate for 2 1/2 years, only to have that candidate's campaign officials as well as his supporters call you "greedy" and accuse you of all kinds of things.
The only greedy people were Obama's campaign staff members. They wanted to hijack Anthony's work and wanted to take 160,000 supporters for nothing.
That is wrong, no matter whom you support or what your political beliefs are.
If I were Obama, I'd offer Anthony an apology and offer him a position in his campaign. It's the only right thing to do.
SHUT UP AND IMPEACH, GODDAMMIT!

it sounds like you haven't read any of the blogs at all. I suggest you do that before making ill-informed comments.
by McPeePee on Thu May 03, 2007 at 12:20:44 AM PDT
Perhaps you missed the comments I was responding to. Please refrain from talking to me like a child. Makes you look like an a-hole.
by MainSt on Thu May 03, 2007 at 09:27:02 AM PDT
SO you then know creating a myspace profile costs no money, correct? So then you know the Obama campaign didn't take his 160,000 friend list, right? You know they didn't hijack ANY of his work, and that he was the one who changed the password on them and then requested compensation right? You know the Obama campaign offered him a job months ago and he declined to continue volunteering part time, right? You know Obama already personally called Joe Anthony, and did the "only right thing to do" as you put it, right?
But I'm just probably being an a-hole pointing out what you already know but seemed to contradict by your post above.
by McPeePee on Thu May 03, 2007 at 09:59:50 AM PDT
Based on everythig I've read, Obama's staff fucked Anthony. If what you wrote is true - that Obama has already called him and what not - all you had to do was post a link pointing me to that direction. But no. You, like other overzealous Obama supporters here had to be condescending and be a complete asshole about it. Even now. And you wonder why Obama's campaign is turning people off and losing support among liberals here.
by MainSt on Thu May 03, 2007 at 03:17:19 PM PDT
Alright then. So sorry to have hurt your feelings. I see you've read nothing in my post. Your original post contains a string of factual errors, belying the fact you haven't read the whole story, and you're trying to defend someone strong-arming the campaign for money by changing passwords, and you call me the a-hole? Please. And what makes you believe I am an Obama supporter? because I read all sides of the story before making my first ever post on DKos? Again, please
Yea, Obama's staff fucked Anthony. They are shitting on their supporters. They're all assholes. Thank you for setting the record straight with irrefutable logic and concrete facts and without any bias at all. /snark
