Jesus Christ!!!!
Fuck!
Seriously, this diary had better be snark. Since when do we trust the motherfucking, cocksucking, lying motherfuckers who have advocated torture, overturning the rule of law, oh fuck it, I'm not wasting my time with a list. If you don't know how dangerous these bastards are, you are guaranteed to die clueless.

Sorry for the rant. In fact, it's just aimed at the universe. I'm just so pissed right now, I can't see straight.

I'll go call Marilyn Musgrave, who has voted 98% of the time with this President, when she isn't busy trying to pass an amendment to ban gay marriage.
I'm sure she's ripe for the liberal pickin'.
by Pager on Tue May 22, 2007 at 01:17:25 PM PDT
last time around? That's the one Angie Paccione ran against, right?
I want to say (if memory serves) that the race was sort of close. Just within a few points? Who knows...maybe this will make her more ripe?
Obama, or McCain

percentage for re-election of any incumbent in Congress. What a strange distinction. I'm sure she's proud.
Paccione just announced. She's going for the seat and the way the Republican scandals are rolling in, we seem to be getting ready for "the perfect storm", part deux. God, I hope, anyway.
by Pager on Tue May 22, 2007 at 01:40:09 PM PDT
lose. My ex just moved to her district...well, I think Boulder is in her district. I could be wrong perhaps...he has idiotic Republican family though that definitely live in her district and voted for her. Although one of them came close to not voting for Musgrave because he and his new wife have quite a few gay friends and they were uncomfortable with her being the one introducing the ban on gay marriage and all that. Hopefully next time that discomfort translates into a vote for Paccione.
by Elise on Tue May 22, 2007 at 01:59:47 PM PDT
in Colorado and it's where Rep. Mark Udall, who is running for senator, hails from (CD2.)
Musgrave's district actually includes the very northern tip of Boulder County, where all the damn Republicans live. Redistricting did our congressional district no favors.
If your ex has idiotic Republican family members, rest assured that they are probably in my district.

Repugs would rather lose than compromise their principles. Staying out in the wilderness for over thirty years after they caused the Great Depression never made them change their tune. As a matter of fact, they spent that same thirty years trying to stop every atempt to get this country out of that depression they caused.

how long the funding is for in this new supplemental? Is it just until September?

and then we will "re-evaluate".
You know, interesting sidenote but it coincides nicely with this bit of news--we had a guy named Bob Perito, from the US Institute for Peace, come speak at our monthly Democratic county executive meeting. He was part of the Iraq Study Group.
He flat out said that we are still 2 battallions (or is it brigades--I'm militarily naive) short and to fulfill the obligations of the "surge", we are deploying five total. Currently, only three are there.
The other two won't get there until mid-summer so the White House is banking on things getting better when all five are engaged in Iraq, thus the Republican push to wait to assess the situation and look at it again in September.
by Pager on Tue May 22, 2007 at 01:22:34 PM PDT
at least that is something. If it is only until September, I hold out hope that they can push the "no more funding after March 2008" method with the general public.
Sounds like a great speaker.
by taylormattd on Tue May 22, 2007 at 01:25:05 PM PDT
Most of us in the audience were not buying about half of what he was selling but I thought it took great courage for him to talk to us.
The Institute for Peace is considered non-political/non-partisan (ha ha) so he really did have to walk a fine line with what he said.
I got the distinct impression he thought Bush was full of shit and was literally buying more time, on the backs of American lives.
He also mentioned that Petraeus is doing something brand new in Iraq--he's moving the American military off of the fortified bases and into Iraq neighborhoods so their presence is felt more with the insurgents.
The big question I had (but we ran out of time to ask him questions) is do the Iraq civilians really want us in their neighborhoods? Are we putting American soldiers in more harm's way by moving them off the FOP's and into the heart of the civil war?
He seemed to indicate that this was an all or nothing strategy at this stage and that Petraeus knew it.
He also said there is no chance of a military solution, at this stage in Iraq. The only chance for peace is a political solution and he sees the Bush administration making small overtures to start reaching out to Iran and Syria, as recommended by the Iraq Study.

It was part of Bush's surge announcement. I was not then, nor am I now, impressed.
I heard about neighborhood policing, trust building, and security: These Iraqi forces will operate from local police stations – conducting patrols, setting up checkpoints, and going door-to-door to gain the trust of Baghdad residents. secure neighborhoods visible improvements in their neighborhoods and communities I heard about jobs and economic development: better results for economic assistance reconstruction and infrastructure projects that will create new jobs. To empower local leaders, (bonus points for "empowering local leaders") This is the beginning of a classic, and often successful approach, in troubled urban/inner city/impoverished/neglected neighborhoods. Why wouldn't it work just as well in the troubled urban area of Baghdad, and the impoverished Sadr City? Snark! Snark!
