"The issues don't matter if when you get in power, you do nothing about it... What is going to make you any more effectual? ...How are you going to be different?"

"How will America be better off with you as President"
A: A clear record of opposing the war from the beginning, opposing funding 100% of the time. Never send military in pursuit of political agenda, or a lie.

We need to eliminate special interests, that's why Obama doesn't take PAC money.
by smokeymonkey on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 04:01:48 PM PDT
Obama defending his record gets a great applause from the audience. Can someone elaborate on Obama's point here?
by smokeymonkey on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 04:04:52 PM PDT
was that the reason Gravel knew about the sources of his money was a discloser bill that he helped push through. In other words, he doesn't just talk the talk, he walks the walk. And he does have a consistent record on campaign finance reform, still backing public financing to this day, despite having raised more in a quarter than anyone ever has.

"... on behalf of the individual. In the last forty years that has been turned on its head... I prefer the word 'progressive'... I consider myself a 'modern progressive'."
"I consider myself a proud, modern, American, progressive."

He would take Hagel as VP and Lugar as SecDef.

"The only way they will give up power is if we take it from them." -John Edwards
Booyah!!

Will from Boston:
"Is African-Americans ever gonna get reparations for slavery?"
Edwards: "There are other things that we can do to create equality." Mentions mortgages. "We can't trade their insiders for our insiders." Obama: "Reparations we need ... are investments in our schools."

and he got about the strongest audience response as of yet with this answer.

got the best audience response.

"Would the response would have been different if it were a primarily white city? ... What can you do to assure the most needy people... that you will be there to help?"
Dodd: "The government had almost no response to that disaster." "...we would have seen a much more rapid response, a more consistent response to that city [a more white city]." "It is a mark of shame on this country."

"neglect from the american president"
by Liveblog on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 04:13:07 PM PDT
but he dodged the damn question. He never answered whether race and class was a factor in the neglect! And we damn well know that if the down town NYC had flooded like that it would not still lie largely in ruins.
He took a powder.

for Obama and Clinton:
Obama: "When I'm catching a cab in Manhattan, I'm given my credentials." "Race permeates our society." "Unfortunately, [bush-bashing]..." Clinton: "Well, I couldn't run as anything other than a woman. I'm proud to run as a woman." "I'm not running because I'm a woman; I'm running because I think I'm the most qualified candidate to hit the ground running in 2008."
by smokeymonkey on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 04:16:32 PM PDT
I don't want anyone to vote for me that wouldn't vote for Hillary because she is a woman or for Barack because he is black.
by smokeymonkey on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 04:17:30 PM PDT
"Anyone who wouldn't vote for Obama because he's black, anyone who wouldn't vote for Hillary because she's a woman; I don't want their vote"

Kucinich: "The answer to your question is yes, and let me tell you why. If our constitution really mean what it says... then our brothers and sisters ... " [lost the quote, help]

focuses on how you would want your children treated. He is for civil unions, against gay marriage.

Would eliminate 'don't ask, don't tell' in the military.
by smokeymonkey on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 04:21:35 PM PDT
would you allow us to be married...to each other?
kucinich: yes
dodd: "how would i want my two daughters treated if they had a different sexual orientation." "i endorse civil unions; i strongly support that, but i do not support civil unions."
richardson: full civil unions with all rights of marriage; repeal don't ask don't tell
by Liveblog on Mon Jul 23, 2007 at 04:22:05 PM PDT
Just a note. Edwards responded to next question by saying Elizabeth is for gay marriage and he is not.

Reverend is in the audience.
"It is absolutely wrong for me to abuse that faith basis to deny anyone their rights."

"imagine yourself of one of these children"...what would you do to get these children safely home...and not just more empty promises.
rochardson: it's diplomacy, it's getting UN troops...it's geting EU to sanction Sudan..."
