My heart goes out to all who have seen their lives ruined by Katrina and our Government's lack of response after the fact.
I realize too that the residents of NOLA are just a percentage of those affected by that Damned storm. I pray whoever takes office next year will make the War on Poverty a high priority.
Sunshine on my shoulder...

for caring enough to check it out.
Chris Rose had a sweet column today in the T-P talking about a group from South Carolina that brought down handmade "hearts" from the Gullah off the coast of South Carolina to "cheer people up".
Here's the column. Short and worth the read.

my daughter worked on Habitat for Humanity building sights in the upper 9th ward in May & June. They were helping build a group of houses called "Musician's Village."
She said the lower 9th ward was much worse than the upper 9th (where Habitat was working). Mostly the lower 9th ward was deserted, with few buildings actually left standing in any re-claimable manner.
Her group lived down the road a little ways, in St. Bernard parish, where the utilities were very spotty. They were bunked in a stripped out schoolbuilding, with no interior walls left, just temporary dividers.
She said it's pretty difficult to comprehend the devastation. Sometimes it seemed more like the aftermath of a war zone.
