Maybe the netroots could start a fund to assist those that the Bush administration has ignored. I'll make a pledge to donate $100 if someone will get the ball rolling!!!

to give money to. Habitat is one and Netroots Nation, as I've already mentioned, might want to do something.
If the occassion arose, how many of ya'll would be willing to donate some bucks toward a Katrina project? Any idea how much you could afford?
Let's get an idea.
I'd be in for $200. (I know I live here, but so what?)

And I'll come help Habitat put it up.

10 minutes imagine if we really got this thing rolling. I can see the headline -- NETROOTS REBUILD NOLA
by The Armchair President on Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 06:34:33 PM PDT
Some of the Louisana folks like pico will be around sooner or later. Nightprowlkitty's in New York but she might have a little more info than I do.
I kind of like the Netroots idea but we won't even know where it's going to be held for quite some time. However, if it is in NOLA and we built a house, we'd be able to get it started and then some of us would have to commit (maybe in shifts) to continue the project until it's done. In other words, we couldn't get it up the week of the convention. It would have to be built around that time....maybe before hand as the weather would be good. It could be unveiled for the convention.

So it would be great if someone would set up a fund I think we could rebuild a house by Christmas!!!

'cause I know it counts in your wallet!

I've been giving every 2nd month through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for almost two years. Could be time to spread it around some.
Now...if we did this, reckon we could find a MATCHING donor? Corporate, individual, no matter to me.
The truth always matters.

Anyone have any ideas?
by nolalily on Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 06:45:02 PM PDT
the focus? You could link to this diary and highlight some of the pledges and get the ball really rolling. Maybe get with folks from NOLA and see if you can find the BEST of the BEST group to work with. if you need help, email me and I'll be happy to pitch in!!!!

It's come up before but then gets dropped. The important thing is that people are willing to participate. How many is, indeed, one of the questions. I have alot of questions that I need to ask first.
Like....who many solid commitments can we get. People don't have to say how much just that they'd commit cash.
Then we'd have to decide if we wanted to build a house or something else and how to do that in the right way.
Next, we'd have to find out who our connections are. I already know the Habitat connection but what about others.
There's more. Like how much time do I actually have. Our house isn't finished yet and we're working on it ourselves. (Don't get any ideas if you were headed in that direction. There are plenty of people in more need than us.)

Lowes is selling them in the parking lot, it is a kit. We could work towards purchasing and furnishing one for a needy family with only an empty lot.

Raise enough $ for a KK in both states.
by chigh on Mon Aug 13, 2007 at 08:02:41 PM PDT
but according to this, you can build a new Habitat house in NOLA for $75,000. We are huge Habitat supporters locally - and even those Faux News types cannot say the folks are receiving a handout. Not with 350 hours of "sweat equity" before they get a house!
We've met some of the most wonderful families that way...

I'm in too

Good to have you. We're getting some great people. I believe I will be writing something more formal so we can get an idea of what we've got. I have to do some homework.
kos may not want this to be affiliated with the website but that's down the road a bit.

There's been some talk about donating money to build a Habitat for Humanity House for an evacuee if Netroots Nation is held in New Orleans next year.
