That is one of the better responses... still trying to figure out the last part (I was never a basketball fan. Yes I know, I know -- not allowed, but I like football and baseball. I know; I should just move.)
I was actually a programmer; always hated it, but it was a living. We got screwed by everyone (carried pagers, on call continually, hardly given comp time and paid 'salary' so they'd never owe us overtime. The ultimate chump job.) They've outsourced us now anyway.
I didn't work in the corporate world for long before I was thoroughly disgusted, and so I started working as an IS person in hospitals, hoping to 'make a difference, there. But of course, the corporate world eventually gobbled up hospital management, and suddenly there were layoffs, 'reorganizations,' pay cuts, and terrible moral there as well.
My favorite memory though is from while I still worked in a small company that did internet design, and they were eaten up by a larger company. We were all called into a meeting and told it was time to 'drink the Kool-Aid.' They really said this. We were supposed to start lying to our customers - basically screw over people with whom we already had a working relationship - simply to make MO MONEY. It was appalling. And the worst part was that no one around me seemed the slightest bit upset by this... lack of ethics.
