Utah 44, #11 UCLA 6
'nuff said. Wow, that was bad. That was very, very bad. Can't wait to hear the talk radio call-in show for the postgame report. Wow. Will we even be in the top 25 next week?

Just OUCH!
Think that'll be in Leno's monologue next week?

Alabama 21, Arkansas 10 at halftime
by Kristi from Arkansas on Sat Sep 15, 2007 at 05:53:13 PM PDT
We had a chance when we were only down 17-6, and our receiver dove in for a touchdown... and lost the ball after he crossed the goal line, and the refs ruled it a touchback. That's when you start tearing out your hair.

Alabama 31, #16 Arkansas 17 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
This sucks!
by Kristi from Arkansas on Sat Sep 15, 2007 at 06:35:52 PM PDT
We're pulling for Arkansas, Kristi.
War Eagle!

Now it is: Alabama 31, #16 Arkansas 31
GO HOGS! We just might win it after all!
Fiddler - who's your team?
by Kristi from Arkansas on Sat Sep 15, 2007 at 06:49:52 PM PDT
So that's my team now, too :)
It's always good to see Alabama lose.

Gawd, I still can't get that song out of my head, from the time we played them in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament... in March 2006 down in San Diego. We sat by the Alabama marching band. That song creeps into your brain cells and messes you up bigtime.
Though in football, when UCLA played Alabama back-to-back years (and beat them both times) a couple years ago, a lot of bonds of friendship and mutual respect were born between the UCLA and 'Bama fans. Plus, their basketball coach is our former assistant who helped us win the 1995 title (when we beat Arkansas). So there's definite ties.
Oh, random story you may appreciate. Met a girl from Auburn who came here for grad school in math. Turns out she's the granddaughter of Fob James. Her parents rebelled by becoming liberals, and she became even more liberal than her parents. Oh, do I have stories about how fundamentalist Fob is.

Is really shaping up to be a season of upsets. Between that, Auburn, Michigan, and Notre Dame, at this rate Appalachian State will be in the Rose Bowl.
Silence Isn't Golden

Ugh. Now I'm just hoping Nebraska can upset USC so the UCLA sports websites don't get a huge influx of Trojan trolls infecting our boards for the coming week. And listening to the radio now, it's basically, fire the coach, fire the athletic director, fire the offensive and defensive coordinators, fire the trainers, etc.
And Netroots Nation '08 should be in Los Angeles. When the GOP attacks us for being Hollywood liberals, why run away from that? Embrace your inner Hollywood liberal. 8-) We should have the slogan, "Hollywood Liberal, and proud of it." 'Sides, then I could actually afford it. Chicago really set me back financially.

It was in Las Vegas last year. We should be rotating regions!

Nevada is the Mountain West, at best. West Coast is just California, Oregon, and Washington. Heck, go about 100 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, even in California, and you're already in deep red territory that's more "Mountain West" than "West Coast". This whole Mountain West resurgence among Democrats, with the rancher/cowboy type, is completely foreign to us "Hollywood liberals", LOL.
And 'sides, we've got a solid base of key Kossacks here in Los Angeles that can really show y'all a great time. Come see the core group that got Ron Shepston (CanYouBeAngryAndStillDream) running for Congress! Yeah, it's not exactly Los Angeles, but as far as anyone not living in California is concerned, it's Los Angeles. ;-) I mean, can occams hatchet write a diary that doesn't end up on the rec list?
Oh, and the music scene? I used to sing in the UCLA Chorale with Sara Bareilles. And a couple years ago, I saw this band of UCLA students called "Kara's Flowers" performing at UCLA's famed Spring Sing competition. (See here for some videos from the show. Good stuff.) Today? They're known as Maroon 5.

A lot of Bruin fans are still pointedly not happy with Florida over these little things called Final Fours. Add to that last year's Emerald Bowl loss to Florida State, and we're just not happy with the entire state of Florida.
You could almost say our fucking problem IS the state of Florida. :-)
by BruinKid on Sat Sep 15, 2007 at 06:30:13 PM PDT
Auburn and Texas are empathetic. Texas may think less so, since they squeaked by UCF today, but Rice awaits their injured selves with slathering lips.
Florida's second tier state colleges are giving the ranked NCAA teams fits. It's all that water filtered through miles and miles of limestone that's our secret. Something like Kentucky Thoroughbreds and their limestone-rooted bluegrass, I guess.
