I've got an idea. Get a Democrat to sponsor an amendment condemning Rush Limbaugh for calling you a phony soldier and denigrating your military service. While you're at it, the amendment should also include some language condeming Rush for calling Marine Paul Hackett a "staff puke".
oops. I hope the gate wasn't too expensive.

Seriously, lets do that. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. In fact it is a chance for those Dems who voted for that crap to redeem themselves, at least a little.

Okay here is a quick letter that anyone can send to their Reps and Senators. Lets get after it Kossacks!
Dear (Insert Senator or Congress members Name) I am writing today as one of your constituents concerned with the War in Iraq. Both the Senate and the Congress have recently found it necessary to chastise MoveOn.org for their advertisement in the New York Times. This is obviously an issue that both houses of the Legislative branch feel is very serious. That being the case I must tell you about another case of disrespect towards our fine service men and women. Today Rush Limbaugh said that any of the soldiers that have returned home and would like us to end our participation in the War are "Phony Soldiers". Clearly this needs the same type of action that you took in regards to MoveOn.org. Mr. Limbaugh’s show is syndicated and has an audience far larger than the circulation of the New York Times. It is incumbent upon you to stand by your actions and sponsor a resolution condemning his criticism. To fail to do so would make your actions on MoveOn.org appear craven and politically motivated. Please support our troops and take action on this issue now. Sincerely, (your name)

I'm going to personalize it a bit and e-mail my Senators and Congressman.
I have a feeling Kit Bond won't respond at all.

Rush's show is played daily on Armed Forces Radio of all places, so I just sent them a letter asking them to discontinue His Chickenhawk-ness. Go to: http://armedforcesradionetwork.org/... then to "command" link, then "feedback".
Also, ER Doc, how do you put a slash through a word, as in your Paul Wellstone above? Thx

I used your language, though I made two calls instead--to Senator Kohl and Congressman Sensenbrenner. Why not? I think this is a stupid use of time in the Congress, but it's not as if they are doing too much worthwhile lately.
by coolsub on Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 02:18:10 PM PDT
It is really time to make them live up their image. If they care about this type of shit, then they are on the hook for acting on all of it.
by Something the Dog Said on Thu Sep 27, 2007 at 02:20:34 PM PDT
Emailed my Senator and Congressman respectively. Since both are ardently anti-Iraq, I'm pretty sure they'll be interested to hear about Rush's comments.

It is really ridiculous that our Congress would spend time on this, but if that is the way that want to play it, lets play it hard.

thanks for participating. I would love to know if Sen. Webb responds. I saw him on Countdown last night and he did not seem keen to condemn Rump, but we will see.
Thanks again.

that the only member of the military that matters to publicans and conservatives is one named patraeus? The rest don't count unless they can be used for photo ops. That's why veteran's medical care doesn't matter so much. A wounded vet doesn't make a very good photo op (not that bush hasn't tried, but the media doesn't fawn over him enough when there's a wounded vet around).

it won't be long until we have reports being delivered to Congress from Private Gomer Pyle. I can hear Bush now "I have the utmost confidence in Private Pyle. We have to listen to our leaders on the ground. Private Pyle is a leader, he knows firsthand, how things are going on the ground in Iraq" As the Republicans in Congress all yell in unison "Shazaam!!"

It was petty of the Republicans to waste time condemning an ad and it would be petty of us.
We need to be the responsible party that takes the steps that are necessary to help our country and not waste the Congress' time with petty partisan politics.

we can get them to either frag one of their primary water carriers or be shown to be the hypocrites that they really are. It is petty, but it is good political theater, and frankly if we can get legislation done, we might as well win the PR battle.

The Republicans opened this up, lets shove this through. Even if we can't get a condemnation of his remarks, this would put them up there for everyone to see what slimeballs the right are.
