country making it illegal to give babies names that are words spelled backwards, like Neveah or Divad. With my apologies to folks with backwards spelled names, I just think it's silly.

was on my name list until last weekend when I heard a mom call her toddler over with "Ad-er! Ad-er!", and I realized that as long as I lived in New England I couldn't give my child a name that ended in 'a'.

my stepdaughter is named Irina and I was just contemplating how my ex brother in law from NH would pronounce it. Hey Iriner!

My grandmother was named Ada. She was one of the kindest, most sincere, funny and tolerant people I ever knew. She was an absolute devout Catholic - went to mass every day once she retired - yet at the same time she wasn't afraid to stand up and insist on reform in the church she loved. She marched with my mother and I in a DC Pro-Choice march in (I think) 1982. She was adamant that priests should be allowed to marry and that gender didn't determine a priest.
It's a great namesake. :)

"Emmas" in our area. That's a nice name, too, but doesn't solve the NH problem, as it would be "Emmer".

Turn of the century vowel-ly names are popular. I like Katherine, or Kate, but my son is Nate. 'Kate and Nate' could be silly.

are kate and nate-- it's not as bad as you might think.

At least no one is requiring that all the boys be named George Forman. :-)
