he can change the subject everytime something that is important comes up. Osama is a great subject changer. It's laughable for those that pay attention, but it's likely horrible for the 30% that are still silly enough to believe that their OWN government isn't trying to sell them a used Yugo.

It showed a car with a W sticker, and the people in the car are saying, "Who still has one of those on their car?" The license plate says OBL, and guess who is at the wheel?
I always thought that his rant during the run up to the 2004 election was a pretty shrewd move: the electorate would do pretty much the opposite of whatever he said he wanted, and he knew it. And they did. And we got W. Not that it was all his doing, but he did play the US perfectly that time.

The noon talkshow host on 610 WTVN spoke of Bin Laden as advancing the ideals of the Democrats, and spoke of putting the Democrats in a cave with Bin Laden and "surging" them, whatever that means. The reality of all of this is that bin Laden understands that at least some portion of Americans will react to his spouting of code words like "global warming" or advancing a position of getting out of Iraq, as this (idiot) talk show host did.
What appears to me to be going on is that bin Laden is attempting to influence American policy just as the Tar Baby did to Brer Fox - - "Whatever you do, don't throw me into that Brier Patch."
It's time to put the best interests of America first, and pursue rational and prudent international policy, that is respectful of others yet holds the promise of punishing those who attacked us on 9/11/2001. The person who attacked us is still at large making videos. Those who did not, the people of Iraq, are living in chaos and mourning their dead. It's time to stop this. I hope that you, Rep. Massa, can exert influence on Speaker Pelosi and others in your caucus to pass a meaningful bill (or not pass anything), that will advance the timetable for withdrawal and move our country forward.

equivalent - and every one of their candidates certainly are - will get elected to the WH. Republcans are Osama's best recruiting tool ever.
Barack Obama - I'll never see the threat of terrorism as a way to scare up votes, it's a threat that should rally this country against our common enemies
by madgranny on Sun Sep 09, 2007 at 01:45:00 PM PDT
Yes, I noticed that is their talking point. David Brooks was the first I heard use it when he was on the NewsHour. I don't remember Shields talking back although any thinking person would have fallen out of their chair. Specially, they're saying that Obama sounds like a left-wing blogger. I wonder if our side will jump on this?
Eric, you are correct. If the bush policy is working then what is Osama doing on our TVs? Great question.
And if law enforcement methods don't work in dealing with terrorists, then how did the German police manage to nab them without having to bomb another country? That's rhetorical BTW.
It is always good to hear from you.

... all flat-eared when I stated my opinion that Bush would never capture Bin Laden. It is based on the fact that the Bush cartel is in way too deep with the Saudis -- and that includes the Bin Ladens. And -- families being what they are -- the US (and Bush in particular) couldn't get a "bad" Bin Laden without retribution from the "good" Bin Ladens.
I've held this opinion since 2001 when when I first heard how Bin Ladens residing in the US were hurriedly evacuated in the aftermath of the attacks on the WTC and Pentagon.
I'm not flat-eared any more.

on national television and still won the election. What are you going to do. That's the reality in which we live. I have a couple of thousand dollars that I would bet that if bush could and did run again, he would be reelected. That's how sick it has become. My cynicism knows no bounds at this point.

And the reality gets shaped by the pathetic media giving Bush a pass on what is not only a lie -- that he didn't say what Kerry said he did (indisputable, given the follow-up video) -- but they gave him a pass for saying that Kerry was lying (one of those "EX-AG-GER-A-TIONS," a word that apparently needs to be exaggerated...) when calling Bush out.
But I'm quite cynical too now. Without even Googling, I'm guessing that a handful media outlets ran post-debate analysis where they decided that Bush wasn't lying, because Kerry didn't have the wording 100% transcript-exact, even though he had all the important words in the right order, and it meant the same thing.
And no one ever called Bush on this lie. Ever.

He lies with impunity. It's the kind of thing you get away with when you have control of a media propaganda machine. And we ain't seen nothing yet. This is little more than a rehearsal for what is to come.

Now Osama thinks he can keep the Iraq war going by antagonizing Americans on TV, into prolonging the occupation in Iraq.
Al Qaeda feeds off of the occupation in Iraq. Al Qaeda needs the Iraqi occupation to continue in order to keep fueling Al Qaeda's rapid expansion with copy cat groups springing up all over the world.

If Osama is not an invention of Cheney/Bush and the CIA, he has certainly been a godsend to them, just as they are a godsend to him.

How can we have our Two Minutes Hate if there's nobody to hate?
That's all Bush and his ilk know - fear and hate.
And if they have to invent an enemy to hate, they'll do so, or in this case, fail to capture an enemy, because he's more useful while he's on the loose than he is dead or behind bars.
Waster of electrons, unlawful enemy combatant.
by meldroc on Sun Sep 09, 2007 at 05:09:34 PM PDT
It's too hard for me to keep track of who we're supposed to hate. And then you get into this whole what do you do if someone you hate hates someone else you hate? Or what if someone you like hates someone you like? Or someone you hate likes someone you like? It's just too confusing. And then, like, if you hate all gay people, what happens if someone you like turns out to be gay? Then you have to automatically start hating them? And what about a god-fearing talk show host that turns out to be a drug addict? As long as he's a Republican, it's ok not to hate him, right? I'm going to need to write this down. Like, I'm supposed to hate Bill Clinton because he lied about having an affair, but it's OK for GWB to lie about anything he wants because... he has a fish on his car? Is that it? Where's my eraser? And the Saudi thing... I'm supposed to hate all Muslims, unless they're rich? No, wait, Hussein was rich, wasn't he? I'm sooooo confused now. I'm going to need a fresh sheet of paper. Now, if the Republican is found soliciting a prostitute and is from a state with a Republican governor, I'm supposed to hate him, but if he's from a state with a Democratic governor, it's OK, right? Or is it the gender of the prostitute that makes the difference? Forget it. Now I need a calculator...
