this was done for political purposes.

    Another thing in the editorial:

*Rather than follow the usual declassification procedures and then invite reporters to a briefing -- as the White House eventually did -- Vice President Cheney initially chose to be secretive, ordering his chief of staff at the time, I. Lewis Libby, to leak the information to a favorite New York Times reporter*. The full public disclosure followed 10 days later. There was nothing illegal or even particularly unusual about that; nor is this presidentially authorized leak necessarily comparable to other, unauthorized disclosures that the president believes, rightly or wrongly, compromise national security. Nevertheless, Mr. Cheney's tactics make Mr. Bush look foolish for having subsequently denounced a different leak in the same controversy and vowing to "get to the bottom" of it.

Oh, it was Cheney with the bad judgment.

See today's AP article, which also notes Cheney screwed up, not Bush:

*Bush merely instructed Cheney to "get it out" and left the details to him, said the lawyer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case for the White House*. The vice president chose Libby and communicated the president's wishes to his then-top aide, the lawyer said.

Nice to see the editorial dovetails with the details from a lawyer close to the Libby case.  Gee, let's see, who would have a laywer who would be familiar with what Bush instructed Cheney to do?

Aha, The editorialists tell us that Bush wasn't speaking of the Valerie Wilson/Plame leak.  Why, George was talking about harmful leaks like the NSA spying on Americans or some other nonsense.  Give me a freakin' break.

Ever since we first learned that Cheney was Libby's source for the identity of Plame (and this was back in 2005) we have known that The Leaker was Bush and/or Cheney.  I imagine it depends how you slice it.  It is now, however, abundantly clear that these people (all of them) need to be rounded up and charged with obstruction of justice.

documented declassification procedure that affects American national security is of no import to the WaPo.  The editorial politburo at DC WaPo Pravda have essentially given a publicity freebie to the bushies.  At least the Page Six guy at the New York Post was clear about his shakedown.

Every time history repeats itself the price goes up - Anon.
