George Steph tried to creat tension between Kerry and Edwards quoting Shrum's book and Kerry forcefully rejected giving comment or playing the game twice, to his credit. He did not take a shot at a fellow democrat, which was telling IMO. Bravo John Kerry for not engaging in any of that old style Bullshit and staying Positive.

I frankly have never seen a guest on one of those shows ever shut down a line of questioning so fast and effectively. George even put up a graphic of the quote from Shrum's book, and Kerry was just having no part of it, and finally, they took the graphic down and George gave up. Really awesome.

a younger and pseudo-hipper version of Russert, i.e. always seeking out and trying to "get" people on their weaknesses, real and made-up, and make them look bad. Less about substance and issues, more about he said/she said gossipy bullcrap.
Unless, of course, he's interviewing a Publican, in which case he's usually more solicitous (unless that Pub is on the outs, in which case watch out). A key member of The Village, he knows who actually still runs it and is not about to go out on a limb and endanger his standing in it by, um, actually doing his job.
Totally emblematic of what's wrong with journalism and punditry these days, all "gotcha", horse race and superficialities, running with dominant memes and CW narratives, kissing up to power players and kicking down perceived outsiders. Not a shred of courage, decency or professionalism. Par for the course these days.

He was not attempting to make Kerry look bad, but to have Kerry say something that could hurt Edwards. Shrum should never have included that story as it was part of a very confidential vp search if true.

that could hurt Edwards not trying to make Kerry look bad? Seems pretty self-evident to me. In fact, to Steph, this was a two birds with one stone sort of thing. Ever since he had his idealism smashed working for the Clintons, he appears to have had a chip on his shoulder against his party. I.e. they let me down, so I'm going after them all.
Still the naive idealist, just in a more cynical and disillusioned way.

Kerry kept interrupting him as Steph tried very hard to quote whatever the uncomplimentary material was. I was proud of Kerry(though also curious, because I didn't know what Schrum had said in his book.)
