Today I was doing some work on behalf of another medic.  In talking with a Senate staff member, the comment was made that none of the medics in any branch of service is paid enough for the work we expect them to do.

Then the staff person made the following statement:

I don't think people appreciate medics enough.

You have no idea how wrong that statement is among the military in every branch.  Medics are the most important element of any military unit.  They are respected for their knowledge, appreciated for their talent, and venerated for their compassion.

To all of Mr. Berrettini's kids - the loss you share is so much larger than you know now.  Over time, you will come to understand how honored and respected he was.  

I hope that some of you pay Mr. Berrettini the highest compliment possible by following in his footsteps and enter the medical field.

You've lost a truly great human being.  My profound sympathies to all of you.  It's a time for tears.
