Plutonium Page troll rated his tip jar as well. I suspect that wasn't done lightly, so I'd like any backstory/reasoning.

If I were, say, Bob Johnson, I would be pissed... but this remains a VERY funny and well-done diary.

enough to ask. When this was first up I read it, got a chuckle, then I saw PP's comment and TR. The whole scene baffled me and I looked for a reason, was totally baffled and finally just said WTF, closed the diary, and went back to being miserable with this stupid cold. In spite of my headache I really had to come back and see if I could figure out what was up. Curiosity couldn't shut off.
And let me say the rec lists are great. Page, you got me good. I have been here since you were a FP'er, and I take my TU seriously. So I am sitting here pouring back over the diary to see what abhorrent thing I must have missed for Page to have TR'd this dude. I remember when you got married but obviously forgot Frank. (Sorry Frank!) Well, at least something made my brain cells function today.
by Oke on Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 09:34:04 AM PDT
i too had no idea what this was all about ... but the 'indside joke' part of this kind of reminds me of people that watch LOST 'frame by frame' -- looking for the hidden meaning of each and every millisecond ...
so You don't know that Frank and PP have any connection -- is a good thing imo ... it likely means that You have an actual life ...

by VoicelessInDC on Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 10:04:20 AM PDT
that makes me feel better that you think I have an actual life. I almost TR'd PP for TRing Frank and bring the ratings abuse full circle(jerk), but after taking the excess time for further investigation, I've been assured I can go back to having an actual life. Again Sometimes this place is like the school lunch room. No wonder I don't do reunions.

you'll need a car- the two cool places are outside of Austin a bit. The Salt Lick has a place out west a bit, beautiful among all the live oak trees. Can't recall the other place.
In town, not barbecue, the original Kerby Lane is great- 24/7 and huge pancakes!!! And you have to try Threadgills, that was where Joplin got her start, iirc. Their cheese grits and fried pickles are teh wow.
I could go on...

...added to my hotel reservation. I'm already treating myself by coming on Wednesday instead of Thursday this year, but now maybe I need to stay over Sunday too. Sounds like there's so much to see, and I didn't see much of Chicago due to the great convention events.
But it's so sad when everyone clears out on Sunday, and I'll be raring to put my political energies into play. So maybe I should come a day earlier, on Tuesday, and help more with setting things up?

by crazyshirley2100 on Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 09:32:39 AM PDT
I used to work at 6th and Congress at an architecture firm there, and one day I got off the bus and there was Leslie fixing something on his bike, bending over in his g-string, and I got a big shot of hairy ass at 7:45 before even getting my coffee.
So, when I got into the office, I explained what had just happened in this sort of shocked way and the receptionist almost exploded as she couldn't figure out whether or not to laugh or cry, if I was joking, or if this was something really really serious- she just stood there with this weird smirk, shaking.
Then got it- as my brain was still decaffeinated, I remembered- the woman who hired me at the office was also a Leslie, and she thought I was referring to her hairy ass.
It probably was.
And I never want to know what exactly was brewing around in the receptionist's mind.

but for YKos, standard was $275, full-price $600.
by MBNYC on Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 10:02:28 AM PDT
But what is the difference?
by crazyshirley2100 on Tue Jan 15, 2008 at 10:04:45 AM PDT
covers all of your costs for the convention for real, and lessens the amount of fundraising they have to do. But they don't want to restrict the event just to people who can pay that much, so they offer lower registrations for people who can't afford the whole amount, and do a lot of fundraising. If you can afford the full amount, it's great to pay it. If not, pay what you can. And, either way, if you can come up with something to auction when they do auctions, or buy something at auction, or contribute in some other way, that helps too.
