John Edwards is also refusing to play along with the convenient historical narrative that was supposed to be played out in the Democratic presidential race in 2008, refusing to be swamped by the celebrity status of his competitors, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. On the eve of tomorrow's Iowa caucuses, the former North Carolina senator continues to defy gravity in this state, threatening to strike a nasty blow to either the New York senator who seeks to renew a political dynasty or the rookie Illinois senator who fires up the crowds with his rhetorical flourishes.
