"There is one man who knows in his heart that we have to build one America - not two - and that man is Barack Obama." John Edwards 5/14/08
by TomP on Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 05:09:50 AM PDT
he really speaks his mind about people like that mother-of-all-a**holes O'Reilly in a way that is so satisfying and a breath of fresh air. Obama supporter here, but the more I've seen of Edwards these past months, I've gotten to like him more and more

I could care less if he is running only running a media created horse race third, he's still being the best Democratic candidate.

I couldn't agree more. I've been in the Obama camp, but John Edwards is incredibly hard not like. He's a great guy.

That was pretty cathartic for me ;-)

He really comes across as a relaxed, good humored person. I think that's what happens when people make the decision to simply follow their consciences, speak the truth, and just see what happens.

take himself too seriously. Can you imagine Letterman doing this to Dick Cheney or W...they would have the Secret Service club Dave with a night stick.

I was a little worried about it at first---who the hell is David Letterman to do something like that to a US presidential candidate?---but then I thought better of it when Edwards took it so good naturedly.
I was waiting for him to push his hair back into place, but he didn't do it. He sat there, looking funny, and he understood why. That told me volumes about him.
God, I wish he was doing better in the race.

Personally, I think it was brilliant - confronts the hair thing right there on national TV.

...something Letterman himself said last year:
"I have the feeling about 60 percent of what you say is crap."
I think Letterman really liked the fact that Edwards knew about the incident.

We will have missed a great opportunity for our country.
No offense to the other 2 candidates who are both light years ahead of any of the rethugs, but Edwards has firmer more detailed positions than either of the democratic "celebrity" candidates.

so we missed this. Thanks for sharing.
I deeply admire and respect JRE but I still wonder if he jumped the gun when he decided to run in 2004. Then again, I'm not quite unbiased about that because I loved having him as my senator.

You know you've got the right-wing media bots attention when they group you with George Soros. I just had to find a good place for this Bloreilly excerpt, even though it's pretty long. It's titled "O'Reilly: George Soros is funding Media Matters,John Edwards":
You know, we really should enact a law that makes telling lies something that must carry a large label saying "This is not true" right on the screen. A new kind of Fairness Doctrine.

magazines do in the next issue pointing out errors in the previous ones. At the least, the first part of any broadcast would have to do a short segment of corrections of "misstatements of facts" that happened in the previous program. Ah, no, I guess it's a free speech issue.
by phonegery on Wed Jan 23, 2008 at 09:36:43 AM PDT
O'Reilly's show would have to spend most of their air time on the "misstatement of facts" segment and it would leave him very little time to spew new lies.

That was a great little segment on Letterman last night. I think Edwards was using Letterman's words back at him. Remember when O'Reilly was on Letterman and he told him that 60% of what he said was crap? Edwards kept a straight face though. LOL.

The way he handled questions he couldn't answer (like choice of VP) and turned the tables on Letterman (by asking him to do for him what Oprah did for Obama) was very impressive.
In evaluating candidates, you have to ask yourself how they will handle challenging situations interacting with domestic and foreign adversaries. In this interview, Edwards showed his mettle: tough, witty and quick-thinking.

or best yet, a black woman, the media may actually give him the credit they fail to give him, at least in America. Edwards gets more and better press in the UK then he receives here, it's pathetic.

When Edwards said "But most of what he says is crap.". Although I noticed it took the audience a little bit to start laughing, kind of like their were in shock that a politician especially a presidential candidate would say something like that. But a few months ago when Dave had Al Franken on the show and said "I believe 60% of what he (O'Reilly) says is crap." and Al replyed "That everything that comes out of his mouth is crap" (I'm paraphasing here my memory isn't that good) there was no hesitation at all. I guess they were in a bit of shock that a polititian would say what's on his mind.
