We are paying them a high salary to do a job! They should get their asses back to DC and do that job!
Not one person here could say to their employers, "Hey, I have this other project I need to work on for a while so see you later and be sure to keep sending that paycheck."

They don't work for us anymore. They work for big Corporations and special interests.

I forgot. AGAIN!

Oddly enough.
The key is whether Bush's BFF Harry Reid has 60 votes in favor of ending the filibuster and pissing on the Constitution.
When that cloture vote is taken, the filibuster ends if and only if there are 60 senators present and voting in favor of cloture. If there are, then Bush and Reid "win", and the Constitution loses, whether the vote is 60-1 or 60-40.
Conversely, if Bush and Reid don't have 60 votes, the filibuster continues, regardless of whether the cloture vote is 59-1 or 59-41 -- in that example, the 41 senators who support the filibuster just need to not vote in favor of ending the filibuster, it doesn't matter whether they vote no or don't vote at all.
So this is how liberty dies... with thunderous applause.

that would be 2 more votes.
We pay them to show up and vote to protect our interest. How often does that happen?
by TXsharon on Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 08:38:07 AM PDT
We do need a certain number of Senators to show up and actually maintain the filibuster, because this time Reid won't recognize the "virtual" filibuster of a sixty-vote threshold to pass legislation.
Someone has to stand there and talk for as long as it takes to kill the bad version of this bill. Dodd can't go on forever by himself.

a few other senators showing support and taking the floor during the filibuster would be helpful.
But, the point remains, as long as Dodd and/or others are filibustering, Reid has to hold a cloture vote to end the debate and vote on the bill. And on that vote, we win as long as 41 or more senators do not vote for cloture -- whether all 41 are present or not -- and we lose if 60 or more vote for cloture.

is that we pay their salaries and they get paid very well to be in the Senate and cast votes that represent our best interest.
THEY AREN'T DOING THEIR JOBS AND THAT IS THE MAIN POINT

About four Senators ought to be enough to keep the actual, literal filibuster going.
But beyond that, I think Obama and Clinton could provide some much-needed publicity and moral support to this cause by being there. It would help.
I guess another thought on this is... their not being there is sending the opposite message. I want both of them in the Senate today and tomorrow because it would be a concrete demonstration of their commitment to the Constitution.

Clinton and Obama would give the cause a huge boost by going to the Senate floor and supporting Dodd.
It's a fight that anyone who aspires to be our nominee ought to support with their presence.
