I thought the site was acting funny last night, and I just thought that this was a by-product of an update or something.

that happens all the time with me. Lost it yesterday morning, got it back in the afternoon, and it's gone again this morning.

been participating regularly like a good little Kossack. Sometimes it seems to come and go for no good reason. I seldom TR anyone so I guess it doesn't really matter. But my feelings are hurt....

I also notice that my comments only go back 7 days instead of 14. Has the algorythm changed?

They overran the active comment system last night, so things now go to archive after 7, not 15, days.

if they change it back, will most people also get their TU back?
by MadRuth on Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 05:29:34 AM PDT
I don't think that's the cause of any missing TU status. I believe that TU calculations go back farther than the active comments file, and that they're calculated at comment posting time rather than derived from the data when needed.
by LarryInNYC on Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 05:36:15 AM PDT
It was evident that the system was under strain. for a short time last night my TU status was affected as well. In response, I jumped into a number of comment threads to post comments, which seemed to work (while adding to the overall load even further).

I've got plenty of rec'd comments, and have used only 1 TR this week, and that not in a candidate diary (which I rarely read). Maybe this has to do with the crash last night, as that's when my TU went away.

I hope it's a side effect of massive primary posting and not a change in the algorithm... it's the red queen's race, we all have to post twice as fast just to stay in place.
I got my HCs back for a few hours on Sunday but now they're gone again. Oh well.

....the Trusted User Big Leagues and the No-Rec minors at least a dozen times over the last year or so. The meal money is much better up at T.U. (the per diem in the minors ain't enough for a Value Meal). And when I get up to T.U. it's usually just for a 'cup of coffee'. I got called up for 2 weeks just last month. The curve balls snap a little more at T.U. and the groupies are more impressive (in the dKos minors, the groupies are all over 70 years old and on fixed income). Actually, my new trainer/dKos sports psychologist has been working with me on a plan to get back up to the Bigs. The secret? Cat pix. It's all in the cat pix.

Two nights ago, the system gave -1 ratings to 11 comments I recommended. I got my butt jumped for giving out troll ratings that I did not give out. (How in the hell could anyone have 11 donuts anyway?)
I recommended a comment on a diary last night and my ratings page says the comment is now in hidden comments and there's no way in hell that should be so.
I lost TU status, too, so I can't check to see if it really is or not.
Anyone who lost their ability to recommend comments over the candidate diaries ratings wars is welcome to mine since I'm now afraid to recommend a thing. I suppose an added bonus for some is that it randomly rates -1 instead of +4.

You just brought up something I've been curious about. I read in the FAQ the thing about ratings, and it said in there something about a graduating scale for same.
But from my experience whenever, I rec someone's comment, it automatically gives it a 4. I'm not seeing any option for graduated ratings. It seems to be 4 or nothing at all.
Is this something to which only trusted users are privy? I'm not a TU AFAIK and am not even sure how one goes about becoming one.

I wasn't here in the days when there were 1,2,3 and 4 ratings. All I've ever seen before the other night was +4 or 0. -1 was a new one for me and it certainly wasn't intentional or anything I did on my part.
by Over the Edge on Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 06:38:34 AM PDT
Well, I guess we'll both have to wait for someone more familiar with the system to check in.
The 4 or nothing at all isn't that big a deal for me, but I was just curious about the statement being made and then seeing no option for what was stated. I guess it would be a bigger deal if, like you, it suddenly seemed like I was low rating something I didn't intend to.
by Pariah Dog on Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 06:44:15 AM PDT
for something I did not do and have no control over is frustrating as hell. It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't already a touchy atmosphere around here from the candidate diary rating wars which I avoided like the plague.
I don't know that I would say it is a big deal, but the system is buggy these days and I don't like having lost confidence in it.
by Over the Edge on Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 06:51:33 AM PDT
really, I am. I confess, I did it and with the dailykos family as my witness, I promise never to do it to anyone again! See - it's that every cloud has a silver lining theory in motion!
