  •  salon seems to be having real problems (0+ / 0-)

or it is so self-referential as to be ridiculous. I see a story about one reference in an e-mail. Out of how many? Was it really the prime focus of the e-mail as implied in the story? Why not print the whole e-mail? Or at least link to it? I click on the link called 'Hillary campaign' and it just goes to a list of their stories about her. no idea what it mean but so far I don't see anything to be out-raged over.

    •  two things (0+ / 0-)

      1.  here's the quote again (I posted it above):

Today, reporters received an e-mail with a quote from Kevin Hassett, John McCain's economic advisor. Speaking about Barack Obama's economic plan, Hassett said, "The fact is that Obama's plan today is the most shameless piece of potential plagiarism that I have ever seen. He basically took [Hillary] Clinton's words and Clinton's policies and called them his own. If I were a professor I'd give him an F and try to get him kicked out of school for something this terrible."

But here's the interesting thing about that quote: The e-mail in which it was contained didn't come from McCain's campaign. It came from the press office of Obama's fellow Democrat, Hillary Clinton.

      1.  Why quote McCain...why not just say Obama is copying me if thats what you think.
      •  cause he's the guy who did the research? (0+ / 0-)

        Just spit balling here...

But I demand cites for both quotes and paraphrases from my students.

And it looks like the academic is being quoted...not McCain.

        •  I never claimed (0+ / 0-)

          that McCain said it.

btw the "academic" is more like a hack at the American Enterprise Inst. though he was a prof once upon a time.

Why quote McCain...why not just say Obama is copying me if thats [sic] what you think.

He's the source. Instead of saying "Hey! That guy's copying me." she gets to say "According to this academic who seems to have done some research on it, there's an interesting trend of copying going on."

Somewhere there's a conservative who thinks that I'm a hack for being liberal and an academic...without ever knowing what my actual research and writing capabilities are.
