However my precinct has no chair, it's an open precinct. Many are actually. I was advised to simply grab the gavel and take charge of the meeting if there is no chair, which I intend to do. I'll make sure the doors aren't shut early! Everyone votes!
However, as a Chair, can I also run as a Delegate and make a statement on behalf of Obama?

if your precinct has no chair, then another precinct chair will start your caucus. the first order of business is to elect permananent precinct chair & secretary. at that time you ay stand for PC election. after that, delegates are selected. there are no rules barring elected precinct chairs from advocating for a candidate, so yea, go for it! good luck!

where would another one come from? They are going to be running their own precincts. I was told to simply walk up and grab the gavel when I walk in, and call the meeting to order if there is no chair elected there, and if there is no one at the front, which I imagine would be the case.
Obama's campaign intends to run these caucus where they're open, which most are especially in republican areas.

multiple precincts caucus at the same location. if there is no elected precinct chair, usually what will happen is that you guys will wait for the other precinct to finish up their caucus and their precinct chair will begin your caucus. then, like i said, the first thing you do is elect a precinct chair, and that's when you grab the gavel and take over.
now, there are definitely exceptions. if you get trained on how to run your caucus, by all means, grab the gavel right away. i'm just trying to emphasise that there is a backup process in place if there is no elected chair for your precinct.

I'm so very ready to wrap my brain around this. I hope I can get a good turnout in my precinct. I've never done this before...
But, we learn by doing, right? :)

that i am not advising you to not grab the gavel if you can. =)
in fact, that is the plan for most of the precincts up here: try to run the show if we can.

These primaries are run by the party. The Texas Democratic county party chairs will know where the voting and caucus locations are. In the large urban areas every precinct voting location will probably serve as the caucus location as well. This may be different for smaller counties and more rural areas of Texas.
The link for the contact list of county chairs from the TDP website
Good luck!
