We get the best and the worst of it in this house. And because we like to spread out the celebrations, a September wedding.
Now, go spread some peace, love and understanding. Use force if necessary. - Phil N DeBlanc

I suppose the closest loser story for the week is that I waited too long enough that I missed The Diving Bell and The Butterfly in the theatre. By the final week this past week, the only screenings were at 4 PM, and I was booked this past Sunday and Saturday. Oh well.
That, and taking recyclables to the recycling center today, which I guess isn't loserly, except for how much they built up in my place until then.

this is only the 43rd comment though. maybe i should stick to travel stuff.

One night a few weeks back, when I was a true blue loser with the evening fully free for this, I posted SNLC at what I thought was a reasonable hour, with a sort of populist topic or at least subject. It got about as many comments during most of the evening. The blue coast westerners are then at dinner, and the blue coast easterners are doing whatever they're doing.
The classical music ramblings over the next week between oculus and me generally inflates the count by a "drip, drip" method. One can never tell. Your travel diary was a good one, though.

entitled March. 2004. About Sherman's march through georgia. good read.

But then I'm woefully behind on light reading. Actually, just as an FYI, I'm off this weekend for SNLC too.

....spoon/IC will be up to for this weekend's SNLC. Whatever it is, I'm guessing a definite return of "snark-o-rama".
BTW, this is next on the SLSO agenda.

yesterday my mail included a brochure for the St. Louis opera season. A first for me.
by oculus on Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 02:45:44 PM PDT
What do you think of the repertoire? Of course, perhaps it's some weird connection to Santa Fe Opera, given the pending change of general directors both here and there.
by chingchongchinaman on Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 07:56:32 PM PDT
Latest opera ticket purchase was San Francisco Opera. Maybe they sold their list? or maybe LA Phil. Or Glimmerglass. Or, . . .
by oculus on Wed Mar 05, 2008 at 09:22:28 PM PDT
If logic were any guide, my guess would be Santa Fe Opera selling their list, but one never knows.
Tell me: are you as scared as I am of the Dem race dragging out like this? I know that you and I support opposing Dem candidates, but I'm really afraid that the battle royal on our side is going to drain the juice out of everything and lead to POTUS "Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran". There's nothing that I can do about it, to stop the slow motion train wreck from happening, which adds to the frustration. (Of course, I just broke jlms' rule about no candidate comments.)
I guess I can let you look at the OTSL repertory w/o spoiling it in advance :) . BTW, the 2008-2009 SLSO season has been announced, grid here.

be disappointed when its over. I agree with those who opine all that free media attention is a good thing. Who is paying much attention to McCain these days?
by oculus on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 09:34:19 PM PDT
It sounds like the Oscar Wilde quip of "there's only one thing worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about".
Did you have a look at the OTSL repertoire yet? Of course, given that I'm sure your agenda is full :) .....

Heard Yundi Li, 26 year old who won Warsaw Chopin competition, doesn't include his teachers in his bio, and had a sell out crowd. His speciality is Chopin, but I found it rather calculated, if technically superb. I actually enjoye his Mozart most. Needs maturity, but a real rock star. A bit more disciplined than Yang Yang or Ying Ying (I can't remember his name).
