next to Don Marmaduke at a Dem fundraiser here in Oregon a few weeks back. It was awe inspiring for me as a newly minted attorney to sit next to him and Eldon Rosenthal (another Oregon legend) who was one of my instructors in law school and the attorney for Brandon Mayfield. Mr. Marmaduke was one of 7 Oregon attorneys who participated with you there. Did you know him? He was as humble as you were in describing his role. He gave a very moving slide presentation and commentary which is amazing given his age. One thing is certain, without all of you and the work of the homegrown southern activists who risked their lives daily there is no telling what kind of America we would be living in today. Thank you.

Fell asleep and just woke up. I'll read this when I'm more alert and lucid. But I wanted to say thank you. I'll leave it at that.

I was also thrilled to see him win our state today with such a big lead. I am only sorry that he did not cross the mark of 62% because that was a point that would have add to his delegate count in the state.
I do believe that MS has made some progress regarding Race, but not anywhere near as much as i would like to see. Racism is still very much alive down here at least in my experience.
I have a hell of a lot of black friends here, and the ones I know are fired up about Obama. The problem is that while it has improved, far too many Blacks still do not go out and vote.
One of the interesting things about the vote here today was the following.
The breakdown according to cnn was that the Democratic voters were.
42% male and 58% women.
That follows kind of close to what I was afraid it would be. A lot of the white Democratic women here wanted Hillary. The white Democratic men does not want her as much, but many of them would not for for Obama so I feel that they just set out the race and did not vote the presidential candidate ticket. While they are registered Democrats they can still be quite the racist.
I have noticed that within my county Democratic Executive Committee which I am a member of.
By the way I always enjoy every diary you post.
Peace :)

Do you think that any of the racist Dems you know might evolve through the process of having Obama as the nominee? Do you think any of them will leave the Party? Just wondering what your impressions are.

Unless you have experienced such, you would not understand how frustrating it is to try to reason with them.
I was hoping to get elected as a delegate in our county caucus and perhaps at least as far as the district caucus, but since my fellow executive committee members know that I like Obama, that hope is not going over so well.
Sometimes I almost hate my state.
I left here as a youngster and did not return until 1983 and was hoping that it had improved much more than it has. It was a huge disappointment to discover that while it is some better it still has a long way to go.

I hope you'll file to run as an Obama delegate and get your friends to come vote for you in your county caucus. Obama needs delegates in your county, and in my opinion, you're one of the delegates he needs.
I'm sorry to hear that you are encountering racists in the Party. I like to think that racism is only a Republican problem, but I know it's not. There are parts of my state where racism is alive and well in the Party too. Thank you for standing up for what's right.

You have to fight where you are. Thank you for continuing to speak out and make the case for justice as you see fit. It's not easy being outnumbered. I am sure you are paving the way forward by doing what you are doing. And thank you for sharing your perspective.

some of this is spread by the churches here in Tennesseee. The email "a man from the East will take control of our country and destroy us. Obamma is the Antichrist" is in active circulation. I got it from a fellow democrat. But i know many racist dems here.

I was proud tonight to see Hillary Clinton's racist campaign defeated so soundly in my native state. Mississippians everywhere are very proud that we do not matter!
