Identity group politics took the Democrats down from control of Congress and the White House to the political wilderness. Geraldine Ferraro wants to drag us back to the worst of the 1970's/1980's era of Democratic politics, when the unseemly scramble of competing identity groups for victim status soured middle class voters and drove them into the arms of the Reaganites. Ferraro's brain-dead, dog-whistle racism is beneath contempt. And Hillary's refusal to strongly denounce Ferraro makes her campaign look that much shabbier.
