Really cogent and clear and important.
Minor gripe - the use of "mega."
Mega means "one million" not big.
It came into use meaning big or great when the term "megaton bomb" - that is Million ton (impact of force) bomb - became known in the 1960s. Since then others have taken it to indicate anything big.
Megamedia is a new use to me - guess I'm trying to nip it in the bud.

... who is equal to a million maniacs? And a megacephalic is someone with a head the size of a million people?

the words. HumungoMedia should be ashamed, but they are of course, generally too myopic to see that.

Mega- (symbol M) is an SI prefix in the SI system of units denoting a factor of 106, 1,000,000 (one million).
For example, 1 MW (megawatt) = 1,000,000 watts = 1,000 kilowatts.
(back to me)
actually went to look this up further - Mega as a way to convey bigness started when Megaton bombs started being talked about... turns out although it now is meant to convey a million units (megawatt for example), the root in Greek means "great" or "large", so the use here is more accurate than I initially thought.

one million people to wiretap?
But seriously, folks - great diary. Really, the number of people who don't know how many soldiers (never mind Iraqis) have been killed in Iraq has to be laid right at the feet of the whatevermedia. I'd like to think those numbers are inspiring some serious soul-searching in at least a few newsrooms.
The above comment is probably disrespectful of John McCain's military service somehow.
