What did Wright say that bothered you so much?

    •  Wright (0+ / 0-)

God damn The United states was very offensive.  The cracks against Bill and Hillary was also offensive.  It's hate speech pure and simple but it's not Obama's hate speech.

      •  Neither of those things offend me personally (0+ / 0-)

        but the AIDS misinformation does.

      •  Oh come on... (3+ / 0-)

who the fuck hasn't felt that way with Bush in the WH?  Really and truly.  Who didn't feel that way when Bush got reelected in 2004.  If only for brief moments?  This is bullshit.

As I said above, the hate, divisiveness and fear that has been pumped into our homes, heads, and hearts on a 24/7 hour basis is, in my book, infinitely more harmful than Wright's statements.  Personally, I think that HRC's tacit approval of the race baiters in her campaign is infinitely more incendiary and damaging to this country but nary a friggin' peep was issued by her supporters here...save for one or two.

This faux outrage is really, REALLY unbecoming.  Sanctimony generally is, of course.  But let's be realistic.  This is a schadenfreudic outburst of glee from the HRC supporters.  Not because they give a shit about Wright or what he said but because they think that Obama can get tarred be these statements and brought down.  Let's get real and then we can deal with what's really happening.  Honestly.

Clinton voted for the war where thousands died, billons of dollars down the drain and we invaded a country that had no Weapons of Mass destructions or any links to Al-Queada.

          This is news.

        •  Agree. I wonder when we became the GOP here (1+ / 0-)

People are free to be offended, but god damn America...you have been sucking for the last few years.  It's not a lie.  And black men and women are treated horribly.  This is news to people?

This man is old and has been through a lot most likely.    He served his country.  I don't think Rev. Wright is a bad person who hates people.  I think he said some things he shouldn't, but I think he probably had justifiable anger in the world.

        Here's what he said:

"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."

Are you proud that we treat our poor and sick as less than human?  Are you proud that we act like God's chosen country, with the right bomb others into "democracy"?  Are you proud of killing innocent people in Iraq.

Wright's "God damn America" was a rhetorical statement, and a conditional statement.  He was saying that if this country is going to do these things, then "God damn America."

Take out the rhetorical device of "God damn America" and Wright said EXACTLY what MLK said on many occasions.  Get off your high fucking horse.

    •  Really? (0+ / 0-)

      God Damn America to start.

...when we launched this phony war in Iraq.  I damned it when we re-elected that fucker bush.  I damned it when our government stood by as people drowned in New Orleans.

If you didn't, then you're a real fucking patriot, aren't you?

        •  I wouldn't damn America (0+ / 0-)

          Her President, her government, sure.
          Her people, never.

          •  "Her people"... (0+ / 0-)

...voted for bush twice, backed this fucking war in Iraq, and goes to the mall rather than give a moments thought to the crap bushie and the republican crime syndicate have been doing for seven years.  This is a democracy, bub, imperfect thought it may be, and we've got to take responsibility for what our government does.

            •  Well bub (0+ / 0-)

Her people voted for Bush only once and I've never said all the people are perfect. But I wouldn't damn all the good people just to condemn the bad.

              •  Yeah, you're right about... (0+ / 0-)

...electing bushie only once.  My bad.

But this guy Wright is old enough to remember Selma, and the fire hoses, and the dogs, and the lynchings.  I'd be bitter, too, if I were him.  MLK said the same things, he really did, but it was MLK's strength and his greatness that he wouldn't succumb to bitterness.  I'm not as good a man as MLK, and I guess Wright isn't either.  But I can't fault any man for being bitter about what was done to Wright and his people.

    •  For me... (0+ / 0-)

The god damn America did not offend me.  What he was saying is true mostly.  He just said it in an offensive way.  I don't think the things about Hillary are fair.  She's a rich white woman, but she's still a woman in a man's world.  The aids misinformation is offensive, but otherwise it didn't shock me at all.  I've had preachers say worse.  Didn't agree with them, but didn't run out of the church either.
