and I have no idea what HLD is? I also don't know why you have SB twice. I understand stolen bases, but what is the second SB?

I am a huge baseball fan but stats have gotten out of control. This MLB site is helpful.

a hold - one of them modern newfangled statistics. If a middle reliever comes in and holds the lead, that's a hold. It's a way to get more players in the fantasy game. Otherwise, why draft a middle reliever?
It may be a bunch of bullshit, but it adds to the complexity of the game, so I like it.

It has been so long since the Cardinals have had a "HLD" that I guess I am just not aware of that stat.

A decent middle reliever can get 20-30 holds per season.
Yeah, it blew my mind the first time I saw it, too.

Ryan Franklin of the Cards had 25 holds last year, followed by Randy Flores with 14.
Brandon Lyon of the D-Backs had 35 to lead the league. Heath Bell of the Padres was next with 34.
It's an obscure stat.

I've never heard of such a statistic.

for your team. The Cardinal one is really popular (insert making money) so they have paid access to all these MLB-related sites that use all these different statistically models for performance (both actual and projected).
At times I have to read a post with three different windows open just to understand what they heck they are talking about and nobody would confuse me as somebody that doesn't understand the game of baseball.

First one is for stolen bases - obvious.
Second SB is for pitchers - not so obvious. That SB is for stolen bases against a pitcher. Pitcher is penalized if he can't hold runners on (i.e., his delivery or inability to keep runners close results in stolen bases - bad for him, bad for the team - more runners in scoring position).
