It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. - Aristotle

Yet another distraction based on someone's religion, someone's preacher, what jewelry someone wears or doesn't wear, who cut your hair?, how much did it cost?
It's just too much of nothing important. Sorry, not to demean Frederick's diary because I generally admire his work about how religious beliefs have infiltrated our government. But I'm just tired of talking about candidate's preachers, and continuing to make it an issue with our Democratic candidates is counterproductive.
Now if you want to dish about McCain and Abel, Hagee, Parsley, etc. I'm all over that! How's that for a double-standard?
It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds - Samuel Adams

we also need to sort out the ways that the religious right influences the leadership of the Democratic Party. We can ill afford to turn a blind eye to this. Far from being a distraction, it is central to what we are up to around here. We need to hold our pols accountable, and walk with them in the sunshine, rather than let them stray into the shadows.

But I am so tired of religion dominating our political discussions, and I just want it to go away! With as much as it has been beaten to death over the last week I reserve my right to stick my fingers in my ears and sing "laalalalalalala". That works, doesn't it?
I am happy that candidates on both sides have diverse religious backgrounds, but would prefer that an atheist was included in the mix. In my mind there is just no place for religion in government; that whole premise is antithetical to the principles upon which this country was founded. Unfortunately, wishing does not make it so.

Thing is, as I've noted in other comments, I'm as much concerned about everybody else in The Fellowship as I am Hillary's involvement in it. They aren't a church. They are using a religious structure to create a power base and influence government policy. Far more potential for dangerous impact than the Parsleys and Hagees; who are more out in the open and who have fewer powerful people in their direct networks.
This subject isn't a shiny distraction, IMHO. For me it ranks right up there with the old neo-con PNAC playbook for an issue that needs to be looked at before it's too late.
