ie, I won't vote for McCain but if Gravel is actually on the ballot as a Libertarian, I'll vote for him over Hillary. He's a better Democrat than she is.

Since the Clinton era I've spent a lot of time being ashamed of our party. If Hillary wins (I don't think McClown has a snowball's chance) that shame will most likely continue. I don't think she'll get the nomination anyway. If she does the rotteness in the strate of the USA will be manifest once again and we may never recover from it.

I'm in the downhill end of my 40's. I have never once voted for a Presidential candidate... always against the other ones. Against Reagan, against Bush the Elder, against Dole, against Bush the Lesser. Not once, in all those elections, had I ever even entertained the thought of sitting out, or registering a protest vote. This time it looks like I'll actually, for the first time in my life, get to vote for a candidate.
If I have to, even though I'd much rather vote for Obama, I'll vote against McCain.

is crap. There is no way that President McCain would appoint John Yoo, or that Yoo would be confirmed. The whole reason why Schumer worked so hard to get back the Senate is to block any more Alitos or Yoos to the Court. One of the first things Schumer said was regarding any more Alitos, was "it won't happen". And I don't think McCain care enough to fight for one, so he probably won't bother appointing one either.

but running for president has shown his colors:
he caved on torture
he played Calvinball with the campaign finance rules he wrote and pushed himself
when backed into a corner on the lobbyist deal, he flat-out, demonstrably lied at least 3 times in a week
he's demonstrated he's either clueless or irresponsible in conflating the groups in Iraq in order to justify ongoing war
he flat-out, demonstrably lied to try to cover that.
That's just the stuff I've noticed in the last ... what, 5 weeks? I toyed with the idea of voting McCain for a while, but anyone who still is just isn't paying attention.

by IhateBush on Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 08:30:39 PM PDT
What is there left of John McCain to respect?
His service in Vietnam? He tarnished that when he lent his support to Codpiece-Boy, when any real veteran would have ripped that flightsuit off his body and forced him to eat it right there on the flight deck.
His time as a POW? He tarnished that when he stood up for torture.
His status as a maverick? He forfeited that when he licked Bush's arse like it was a Tootsie Roll Pop after Bush and his campaign totally slimed McCain in South Carolina during the 2000 primaries.
The man is a hollow shell of his former self. The only thing he has demonstrated he cares about is becoming POTUS. Which is reason enough, in my book, not to let him.
Michael Musing's musings
by musing85 on Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 08:21:45 PM PDT
it was on display again when the piece of shit Hannity baited him to trash Obama over the Pastor Wright stuff, and McCain calmly said that he knows Obama and of course he doesn't believe any of that stuff. This was something Clinton simply didn't have the decency to do.
It was on display when he condemned the Swift Boat attacks in 2004 against Kerry.
It was on display many times in 2000.
The difference between McCain or even Bob Dole and a low life thug like Mitt Romney or W is very clear. I may disagree with him, but he is a decent guy for the most part.
by IhateBush on Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 08:29:50 PM PDT
"Character," for me, is how you treat ordinary people you don't know, and who aren't in a position to do you favors. Which puts a different character on McCain's actions vis à vis both Kerry and Obama.
Where was that character you reference when McCain suggested that the best course of action for the government to take during this economic downturn was to do nothing and let people slide into bankruptcy? Where was that character in 2000 when he let Bush fils walk all over him like a rug, and then kissed his ass over and over and over again?
by musing85 on Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 08:34:11 PM PDT
reportedly. He met with Daschle in that period and was considering switching parties (to Independent) in early 2001.
Where was that character in 2000 when he let Bush fils walk all over him like a rug, and then kissed his ass over and over and over again?
As far as this, he honestly believes that this is the case, wrong, but honest. As to tell you quite frankly, McCain is right when he says that big lenders who have made bad decisions should not be bailed out with taxpayer money.
Where was that character you reference when McCain suggested that the best course of action for the government to take during this economic downturn was to do nothing and let people slide into bankruptcy?
by IhateBush on Wed Mar 26, 2008 at 08:38:03 PM PDT
He may be right on corporate welfare, but funny how he forgets that principled stand whenever somebody comes knocking on his door who can afford to give him a big campaign contribution. Not to mention the fact that in the same breath when he opined that the federal government shouldn't be bailing out the mortgage lenders, he also argued that it shouldn't be bailing out the homeowners to whom those lenders lent.

Until I discovered this highly disturbing article, and many others like it, all from respectable sources, my position was:
Now, it's to disrupt this fascist group's plans however I can. They want Hillary to win, so if I have to I will vote against her in the general.
At least then a Democrat would be able to run in 2012. Hillary is not a Democrat at this point in time.

That's the same as voting McCain, and I am tired of this.
At first I played the same games. Telling pollsters I would vote McCain if Hillary was nominated. But now....now it's gone too far.
Any liberal, progressive or Democrat that would vote for McCain, or allow him to capture the White House, because their candidate is not the nominee, is a traitor to their own values.
Harsh, but true. And I have been in the same boat, and feel the same way as a lot of you people feel. It's almost as if I dispise everyone that has anything to do with the Clinton campiagn.
I want to puke everytime I see Lanny Davis. I want to knock Carville and Terry Mac upside the head. And Bill is just pissing me off.
But, I will not allow my vote, voice or money to put McCain in the White House. There is too much at stake for that.
So let's stop rigging the polls(McCain is getting too much momentum from Obama and Clinton partisans telling pollster they won't vote for the other candidate) and let's try to be true to ourselves.
Can you imagine what the numbers would be in these polls if the supporters from both candiates answered that they would vote for the other guy/girl? We are talking about 19 & 28%!

Because it's the same kind of thinking that Nader and his supporters used in 2000.
Gore and Bush were the same.
But a vote for Nader was the same as voting for Bush, in effect.
Despite claims to the contrary, the differences between Hilllary and McCain are vast. I don't want my son, and other parents children, being killed in a war that is not needed.
