Back in college, I once wandered all around my dorm room trying to find the radio that someone left on, only to realize that I was hallucinating the music thanks to extreme sleep deprivation.^* I suppose I could have hallucinated gunfire instead of amorphous country music instead (bonus question: which would be scarier?).








^* Incredibly neat if true factoid: I have heard that this is actually how Kristen Hersh (of Throwing Muses fame) composes some of her songs — she simply repeats the music and lyrics which she hallucinates.
