I hope you don't mind, kath, if we use this as an open thread for people who are phone banking.  (If you do mind, let me know and I'll start another.)  I think you'll agree that that is "on topic" rather than hijacking.

I just had a great call with a feisty woman from Port Arthur who's organizing her precinct for Obama (though she isn't part of the official campaign.)  As is their custom, they are having meetings tonight to make sure that all of the delegates and alternates know the rules for the convention.  What a great idea!

She also offered a taste of how old-fashioned Texas racism plays on the radio there.  As she tells it, a caller to a Beaumont area radio station, without protest from the host, today informed the listening audience that Obama's mother was a slut, that his father was an oversexed African, and that when Obama announced his candidacy he was surrounded by white woman with big boobs, which shows that he is a pimp.

(Note: she did not think that the caller was from Hillary's campaign, but that he was probably a Republican, as their ranks are growing in that area.)

I am so going to love crushing people like that caller like bugs this year.
