I would add that anyone who decides to slip out early gets what they deserve.

the schedule suggested voting at 12:30, and we voted at 3:30, and people have jobs, commitments, etc. The key was to keep extra alternates on hand.

..."slipping out early," but pragmatically, the end result is the same. It's an old insider trick to delay until late in the day, when the newbies are starting to get tired and bored and drift quietly away. And yes, alternates are a good idea.

slipping out early. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
The original precinct caucus was on 3/4; this was the county convention yesterday, 3/29. In our precinct, all the Obama delegates and one extra alternate showed up; two or three of the Clinton delegates did not.
As far as this being run as some kind of game; I respectfully disagree. Processing 13,000 people's credentials in the largest Travis county convention ever in Texas history was just going to take some time; especially considering that in many of the election causcuses, turnout was exponential - it was over 2000% increase in turnout this year over 2004 - so some mistakes had been made in the precinct caucuses that had to be addressed before letting the delegate vote go forward. Also, the process started exceedingly late just due to the logistical difficulties of getting all those people into the Expo Center.
Our newbies were the most committed of the group, but even our oldies who had never done this before were in it for the long haul. We did have one Obama delegate who had to leave before the vote, but we also had enough alternates to make up for her, plus for one of the Clinton delegates.
It's about planning and commitment.

I never mentioned anyone...slipping out early. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
Correct, you did not. I did. And I thought I was pretty clear about it:
On the other hand, I have no idea where you get this from:
As far as this being run as some kind of game; I respectfully disagree.
Unless it's from this:
It's an old insider trick to delay until late in the day
In which case, disagree all you want, respectfully or disrespectfully, I don't care. Your disagreement won't change the fact that this is an old insider's trick, one that's been played many times.
Our newbies were the most committed of the group, but even our oldies who had never done this before
Huh? If someone has never done this before, they are a newbie. So an oldie who has never done this before is a contradiction in terms.
