Lots of energy at my precinct in NE Austin -- best turnout I've ever seen, including the '04 & '06 general elections.
I live in a very racially diverse neighborhood, and the crowd at the polls looked like the neighborhood, which isn't always the case.
There were both Hillary and Obama supporters outside, though more of the latter, who were equipped with signs, brochures, stickers, and lots of enthusiasm.
This came after a really vigorous ground campaign. Lots of mailers and robo-calls from both candidates, but I was especially impressed by the in-person effort by the Obama organizers. I screen calls with an answering machine, but had to pick up when a real live person called in support of Obama -- I had to thank her for her hard work. I also spoke to a canvasser last week who had our household on their list of likely supporters, and our Obama precinct captain also came around an introduced himself over the weekend.
Those personal connections matter! My vote was already locked in, but it was nice to see that level of commitment.
Our signs even showed up in time! One from the campaign, and another from kath25, who kindly shared one she'd received from obamacycle.
It sure felt good to vote FOR someone, rather than just against, which is more typical for me. I could get used to this feeling.
