Barack Obama is trying to build a popular consensus that democratic ideals are American ideals. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton is working very hard just to get herself elected.
That's the best two sentence summary of this election.

We need the House and the Senate. We need statehouses, state critters, local mayors and a really big tent.
If we want to change, that is.
Welcome to hope. Now go to work.

staying organized and pressing for progressive programs.
People power will continue full throttle during an Obama presidency, helping ensure that America is transformed.

A Clinton 50.5 - 49.5 victory with small gains in the House and Senate will guarantee little substantive Progress. (Remember when it's Dem legislation, we need 60 votes...)
OTOH, I hope/envision a much larger groundswell of enthusiastic newbies, chagrined moderates, realistic independents and returning disaffected voters demanding change (especially compared to Grumpy McWarmonger).
I hope Obama's coattails give us a +/- 5% bump in House and Senate seats. That will put the frackin Blue Dog Moderates in a less powerful position. Lieberman will be less influential and will hopefully get dumped in the organization of the 112th Congress - remember his bulldog hearings into the Katrina debacle? No?
Coattails, baby!!
Bottled hot water for dehydrated babies? WTF?!

I'm always glad to see another fellow traveler. If we want to have a referendum on the war this fall, one candidate gives us the chance to do so. If things break our way in TX, this thing may be over soon.
Some men see things as they are and ask why. I see things that never were and ask why not?

but since it's in a diary, I guess I can't submit it.
Very succinct and insightful summary of the campaigns.

When you said
"but since it's in a diary, I guess I can't submit it."
Actually, those ARE the comments that get submitted for top comments.
If the measure of good leadership during a war is how many times the leader visited the country, that would explain why Bush has been a miserable failure.
