Barack's campaign = KKKarl Rove? I've seen some odd non-sequiturs in the past few days (Ken Starr leaps to mind) but this takes the cake.

that's Obama spin. You think she should lie and say Obama has more experience than McCain and will do well in a debate on experience? She's making a case for her, not a case for McCain. by the way Maddie, that's Obama's tactic, first he misrepresents something she's said to mean something awful and then he feigns outrage and tries to rev up his supporters to hate her. That's why he won't win super delegates, his tactics aren't good for the party. Only fellow Hillary haters will go with him and he has them already and it's not enough. He uses the technique called manufactured outrage. Works with people who hate her, but for those who think they're both okay candidates, that turns them off Obama.

next time read the article.
If a conversation is to be off the record, that agreement is usually thrashed out before the interview begins. Sometimes, public figures say something and then attempt to retract it by insisting it was "off the record" after the event.
But by then it is too late, particularly if it is in the public interest that the story be published.
In this instance, Samantha Power was promoting her book and it was established in advance that the interview was on the record.

You can't set up an interview with the understanding that it's on the record and then say something with a quick "that was off the record" after the fact. That's not how things work and Power's been around long enough to know that.
From the Scotsman Article...
PUBLISH AND BE DAMNED WHEN is off the record actually off the record? When the rules are established in advance. Journalists are always looking for knowledge and want the information they receive to be available for publication. But occasionally an interviewer will accept an exchange is "off the record" and that the conversation is not attributable. Remarks can be used as background to inform a journalist's article. If a conversation is to be off the record, that agreement is usually thrashed out before the interview begins. Sometimes, public figures say something and then attempt to retract it by insisting it was "off the record" after the event. Sounds right to me.
Clinton voted to destroy Iraq and kill a million Iraqis. She stood up and cheered Bush and his "surge" at the SOTU. She wants to give over the entire American health care "industry" to the insurance companies. Her version of universal health care is compulsory private for-profit insurance. She's just lusting for another war (Iran, Venezuela, who knows where) she can put her own name on.

Only Clinton supporters work. That's why they can't vote in caucuses which is why caucuses don't count.
I trust Barack Obama.
by casperr on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 07:34:14 PM PDT
most of her supporters have at least one job, and kids at home. Did you notice Texas, in a real vote she wins, but in those caucuses he's got the edge? what does that say to super delegates about all his wins? (hint: he's toast)
by anna shane on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 07:39:25 PM PDT
The people there were, for the most part, working people. with kids. They voted for Clinton and Obama. They took out a couple of hours of their evening to caucus. Some were holding tiny babies in their arms. Some had two or three kids in tow. There were elderly people in wheelchairs and with canes who stood in line to caucus.
Why are Clinton supporters so smug?

that he can't win with votes but can in a caucus, in the same state/ That does call into question those caucus wins. Makes them less compelling. If the results had been similar would have looked better for him. Then he could claim more credibly that he would have won the same if there had been a real primary, that he did have the most support, not just get the most caucus attendees.
by anna shane on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 08:40:59 PM PDT
and would support their abandonment in the next cycle. But in the meantime, like it or not, our party has used them to nominate its candidates including many presidents. So the issue is, if you can't change it, or didn't speak up when there was time to change it, do you then question their legitimacy down the line?
As far as winning everything, of course, wins are always good. But if you are hoping I will cast some question on Obama's delegates, I can't and won't.
Our primary process is so much longer than the nominating processes of other democracies. The only positive in this that I see is that it exposes candidates to pressures of presentation and management. That Obama, a former community organizer, has shown himself to do well in caucuses is testiment, I feel, to his managerial expertise. You can knock them if you want because I know you support Clinton. But I think it is unfair to complain about caucuses late in the game. Clinton would have done better to straighten out her ground game regarding caucuses rather than question the class representation of its participants or their legitimacy. For my money, it came to late and so seemed to be sour grapes.
I realize that we disagree about a lot, but given a reasoned and legitimate comment, as yours, I will try to respond in kind. Best wishes.
by crankyinNYC on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 10:21:04 PM PDT
we're talking about the leader of the free world. If he'd already closed the deal no one would have questioned the way those caucuses favor him, but since he hasn't and both need super delegates himself to get to the magic number, then it's not just fair to ask questions, it's important.
by anna shane on Fri Mar 07, 2008 at 01:41:12 PM PDT

but he can't win now, it's over for him. He's topped out and just repeating the same kinds of misrepresentations that didn't win him Texas or Ohio. It's over for him, she'll stay in, she'll win PA, the Florida delegates will count and they are real votes, there will be some kind of do-over in Michigan, maybe mail in ballots for those who voted the first time. Time is on her side, he's growing tiresome, and he's scheduled to testify for his pal Tony. He didn't close the deal in time and now it's too late. But, she'll invite him on her ticket, and most of his voters will be fine with that. I don't expect kos kids to vote for that ticket, but most will and we'll have a great team in the white house, they'll kick butt. Barry and Bill will be best buds, it'll be great.

he's losing the popular vote. And the mixed result in TX--him winning the primary and her winning the caucus--clearly shows that his delegate lead--based heavily on caucus victories--does not represent the will of the people.
Another proud Clintonista opposing John McCain.

And it's proof of Clinton's poor organization, don't blame party rules for Clinton's inability to compete in caucuses.

another charming turn of phrase from an Obama supporter? It's okay, you're not ready to face it, and I don't have to prove it to you, time will take care of that.
by anna shane on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 08:47:38 PM PDT
Against McCain in those caucus states? Eventually it will be you who wakes up to the reality that the Clinton Campaign is so incompetent that they went from inevitable frontrunner to also-ran. That is the reality, because Obama is still the frontrunner in delegates, money, and (non-Soviet-style) popular vote.

he protests too much. He used to look cheerful, now he's looking gloomy and worried. He went past his shelf life?

all I have to do is gas up my Cadillac and eat bonbons waiting for my welfare check to arrive.

manufacture something then be outrages or simply offensive? My goodness, with all the racism detection going on, you'd think that at least you could find a phrase on his "how to claim racism, how to find phrases to misrepresent" handbook he had to repudiate at the Nevada debate.
by anna shane on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 07:41:55 PM PDT
Clinton supporters work, Obama supporters don't have jobs. Hmmm...Nope nothing racist there.
by roycej on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 07:53:00 PM PDT
Don't forget all of Obama's latte-drinking, Prius driving trust fund elites! They don't have jobs.
by Praxxus on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 08:16:10 PM PDT
but he didn't mean to get caught, and he took it back, kind of. So, who cares, enough of this nasty name-calling, I'll take an explanation.
by anna shane on Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 08:38:59 PM PDT
but if it had come from some non-Obama supporter it would surely be seen as racist, and correctly.

Not even Hubert Humphrey, in all the slimy crap he excreted in attempting to steal the Democratic presidential nomination from George McGovern in 1972, compared McGovern unfavorably to Richard Nixon.
My dictionary defines "monster" as "one who deviates from normal or acceptable behavior or character."
So yes: Hillary Clinton is a monster.

You really think Clinton II would approve of you attempting lame jokes about disabilities? Tsk-tsk.
As is de rigueur with Clinton II dead-enders, you of course do not respond to the actual content of the post.

because if I had to stop and be serious for awhile I'd be flaming the living sh*t out of the diarist and her supporters.
So, don't you prefer me being snarky instead?

the Clinton II dead-ender who earlier today recommended that people frequent the racist Larry Johnson's blog?
Sorry: I don't feed trolls.

Japanese Defense Forces were put on high alert tonight after it was learned that famous, 120ft tall, radioactive reptile, Godzilla, issued a statement from his Pacific lair that he was "shocked and dismayed" at Samantha Powers equivocating him and his fellow monsters with Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Godzilla went on to say that he felt this was an insult "to the entire monster community". Efforts to reach Mothra as a peace maker are reported to be ongoing.
