First they tried to make Headline News look like an American Online introduction page . . . then came Nancy Grace . . . your reliable 30 minutes news any time of the day? Not on t.v.--that's a thing in the past. Print media and then knowing how to use internet research effectively is your only hope being informed.

And was resurrected as a zombie by Ted Turner. CNN feeds him a steady diet of brains, which are taken from the viewers of Glenn Beck's "program." Given this sparse diet, Chuck can be heard to scream "Braaaiiiiinnnnnssss" as his food supply dwindles. Usually, they cut to commercial.

that in a country with three full-time news channels, you had to turn on Headline News to get any actual news. The rest were filled with commentary and fluff.
Now even Headline News, which seemed to have been created precisely to apologize for all the fluff CNN was doing, has gone the same route. Sad.
No wonder I never get my news from TV anymore.

As I have for years now. Recently that avoidance has extended to adding the following entry to my hosts file:
127.0.0.1 www.cnn.com
If you have a Windows-based machine, open your Windows (or Winnt) directory, browse to system32\drivers\etc, and drag and drop your HOSTS file onto an already-open instance of Notepad, and you can then permanently block CNN from ever accidentally being browsed to. That address is your loopback, which essentially redirects all requests to CNN.com back to your own address. So they won't get a single BIT of traffic from me.
I did that in response to their poll regarding Obama's patriotism. Fuck them.

be addressed now that his time slot will be available. I would think that in a year in which there is a serious African-American male contender for presient, as well as white woman, that there would be some consideration for diversifying their evening political shows to reflect this new reality.
They have enough conservative voices already as well. A progressive commentator would be appropriate to balance out the discussion.

they're going for, maybe they'll consider Alison Stewart (who is also expecting, but she's farther along than O'Donnell and thus might be back earlier). She could do a show with a combination of serious issues and light stuff, which is what Tucker was trying to do, but far less smarmily (yes spellcheck, I know that's not a word but I don't f-ing care).

Nora ODonnell & David Gregory hosting a political roundtable would work well with the election year to build up an audience.
Automatically they would increase ratings 20% due to Tuck's absense.

But Ann Curry is an embarrassment. She fawns over famous people -- especially good looking men -- and asks vapid, ignorant questions.
I'm sorry, but I think she has as much presence as a cardboard cut-out. She's the main reason I stopped watching "Today."

by oxley on Sun Mar 09, 2008 at 06:25:59 PM PDT
Is she a Barbie doll? Yes (most female news anchors these days are). Empty headed? I don't think so. That's just my opinion, which I am entitled to just as you are to yours. At least we both agree Rachel Maddows would be a better replacement.

on Allison, and agree to agree on Rachel. 50% agreement...that ain't bad in this crazy world.
As for the Barbiefication of anchors...I remember many years ago when I was in Austin TX, there was a fantastic weather guy who used to explain the weather with a chalkboard and great explanations. He was an old guy, had been doing meteorology for a lo-o-ong time. Well, the channel got rid of him and replaced him with Barbie and Ken who didn't know squat about meteorology. Lots of people were pissed.

In any case, with respect to this diary's subject, I hope that MSNBC smartens up and realizes what potential they have in Rachel Maddow. Anyone who's caught her "Campaign Asylum" segments on Air America (which crooksandliars often puts up as videos) knows just how funny and scarily smart she is.

Yeah, CNN has its touchscreens and its flying piechart, but MSNBC has Chuck Todd. Give me Chuck any day over John King and his touchscreen. Or better yet, be a part of voting in their polls that are so atrocious, your vote can help to show them how wrong they are.

while I agree that CNN is one of the leading causes of stupidity in America--directly behind lead paint and Faux News, simply turning them off for yourself won't do what's necessary --turn of teh stupid for millions of other Americans.
I would therefore suggest one of the following actions, in descending order of extremity:
pro--it's fast and feels really good to be doing something bad to such an utter asshole.
con--we'd go to jail for a kazillion years and the left would lose a century worth of progress
pro -Nice and patriotic, singing kumbayah as we turn off our television sets
con - probably has little or no practical effect on the rest of the country.
pro- easy sell to anyone with more than three brain cells to rub together.
con-people with more than three brain cells won't be enough.
