Obama said:

we are not just a Christian nation.

I took that as a direct rebuke to the theocratic  fascists who prey on the ignorant by insisting "we are a Christian nation."

And, as standstrong pointed out, Obama went on to describe us as a nation of non-believers and believers alike.

I share your outrage about historical revisionism.  However, I don't think that Obama is an appropriate target.
