the next debate should be on Comedy Central with Stewart and Colbert as moderators.

That's the best damned idea I've heard this year. We'd get more out of that than the last 21. And we'd have fun. And people would watch. Why not?

Obama-McCain debate on Comedy Central. It's perfect...and The Distillery is right: McCain has gone on Stewart about a dozen times. I think he would agree, and Obama couldn't turn it down if the "old dude" agreed to do something so cool.
Great idea!

my thought is that it would be all about moving on...
there's virtually no venue left EXCEPT Comedy Central after 21 Democratic Primary debates. And after ABC, Comedy Central would definitely be a step up in tone and substance IMHO.
Also, as a way of putting the traditional media on notice that crap debates like the one on ABC will not be tolerated in the general election I can't think of better messengers than Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert, who would undoubtedly give us more substance than Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolus.

informative debates, as well as entertaining to watch. It's no longer a cliche when people say they get their news from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report--sometimes they cover more important topics in their half-hour comedy shows that Wolf Blitzer can cover in a whole day.

It would be a rousing indictment against punditry & the press. (i.e. Comedians make better moderators than the so-called experts.)

I guess that's technically true. I mean it's hard for them to cover stuff when they aren't on the air...so during their off days Blitzer wins.

could help themselves. Subversive questions would work in the dems favor. Could you imagine them asking Mccain - Senator, do you think it's ironic that the media criticizes you for not knowing the difference between shiite and shia considering you were the only candidate alive when the split actually happened?
Jon I think could do a halfway decent job and probly challenge both candidates. Steven...

with all the seriousness of George Stephanopolis: 'Barak Hussein Obama, WHY do you hate America?' It would be the ultimate parody on the absurdity of the ABC debate which had equally asanine questions (does Rev. Wright love America as much as you do?)but were actually meant to be taken seriously.

It would be the most substantive debate of the season.Colbert couldn't even do his act-- Russert, Gibson, Blitzer, Snufflelufagus have rendered his parody inert by outbuffooning him.
by alizbee on Thu Apr 17, 2008 at 09:28:08 PM PDT
and heck, if Senator Clinton is determined to have another debate, then Senator Obama should insist this venue. It would sooooooooo make the point about how bad the ABC debate was.

Obama should get Jon Stewart to help him with debate preparation. Can you imagine what Jon Stewart would have done to Stephanopolous and Gibson if he was in that debate. If you haven't seen the transcript or video of Stewart bringing Tucker Carlson to tears you have to watch it.

It would humanize Obama and McCain, they could discuss serious issues and have a laugh, and we could take the whole thing out of that pseudo-objective, pseudo-serious news-entertainment environment.
It would be a breath of fresh air.
