    Iranian claims. They are no more valid than OBL's claims as to why he is hellbent on attacking the US. They shift all the time (presence in SA, Israel, Western "cultural imperialism," "disrespect" for Islam, etc.) Same with Iranian claims/

      Iran wants the nuke for deterrence purposes. Not just against Israel -- but against the US and possibly even the Russians as well.
      
      And not just to deter nuclear attacks. But to deter large scale conventional attacks such as a large land-based INVASION by -- oh-- I dunno -- the United States?
      
      Israel wants to stop Iran from getting nukes for VERY different reasons than Busha nd Cheney do. Israel is lookoing at it form a pure self defense standpoint.
      
      Bush and Cheney are looking at it as a way to prevent Iran from deterring an expansion of the Middle East empire.
