  •  and the folks that don't carry passports? (6+ / 0-)

I'm a vet deny me a drink because I as a citizen don't carry a passport, much less have a stamp and the hell I will put that company through will make the real Hell look appealing.

    •  And in the Free Republic of Texas, (0+ / 0-)

your military ID cannot be accepted as valid proof of age by anyone serving liquor. Only Texas-issued IDs are valid. Since the TABC conducts a virtual reign of terror with sting operations, almost everyone toes the line on this bullshit rule. I've been in the position of having to refuse Iraq and Afganistan vets a freaking beer because I couldn't accept their proof of age and they looked under 30.

Almost as bad as the TABC busting out of towners drinking in the bar of their own hotel, with no intention of driving, because "they might pose a threat to the safety of themselves or others". This determination was made because the drinkers were "loud" and "boisterous". They were conventioneers watching a ball game in the bar. \rant

The issue is that people who FREELY present their passport as an ID for purchasing liquor are having this problem.  No one has asked that all citizens must carry a passport (that idea is the real i.d. act and it hasn't happened yet).  The issue is simply that people who present a passport as an ID when buying liquor (who do not have any other form of ID that is legally required of EVERYONE) are being denied because they do not have some silly stamp.

It has nothing to do with denying an american veteran his drink (and an American passport wouldn't have a customs stamp on it anyhow, the stamp is posted by countries other than the one that issued the passport).

So don't fret, you'll still get your bottle of brew.  Or whiskey if your like me :)

The thing about Equal Rights is that if they are not Equal they are not rights, they are privileges.
